Running Sierra 10.12.8
I can't get the computer to connect to the internet. It is connected to Wi-Fi (the same Wi-Fi 2 other computers are connected to), but won't allow access to the internet...
I've exhausted google searches (on my PC), but am hoping someone knows what to do. Please help!
THANKS!

Open your system preferences
Click network
Click advanced
Go to TCP/IP - are you using dhcp? Do you have a valid IP address? Click Renew DHCP lease if not
Go to DNS - are there any DNS servers entered?
Is the time/ date correct on your system?

When it happened to me the only recourse I could find was reverting to a time machine backup. Then doing a system update.

This may sound like a stupid question, but are the calendar and clocks correct on your computer?

Time and date are correct now...
I've done all there is to do aside from a time machine situation. The WiFi icon at the top says it's connected, but Safari and the App Store won't connect...

Did you follow my advice?
What is your IP address? What is the ip of your router?
Are you comfortable with terminal? I can walk you through this.

Did anyone change anything with WiFi router or wireless network? Or maybe router had an automatic firmware update that changed something.
I know you mentioned other computers connected as usual, but I was just wondering. Some can be set up for an access control that blocks internet access but still allows connection for local network access.

This is on top of other parental controls and so on that can be set up to limit internet access.
Are there any other WiFi networks nearby you can connect to and just make sure computer still can connect to Internet using WiFi?

Use the access control feature to block devices from connecting to your router’s Internet connection.
Note: Blocking devices with access control only blocks them from accessing the Internet. Devices can still access your router’s local network and communicate with your connected devices.

It was a common bug in one of the software updates. He can probably restart his computer and the internet will work for a short time...but never long enough to do a software update.
