Not very tech savvy at all...
We have a Mac desktop computer that doesn’t get a lot of use. After the snow storm and us losing power several times, everything that was saved on our desktop is gone. Is there a way to get it back?
I did cloud searches but can’t find the files.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, for instance what sort of files are you talking about that are missing? You might want to try to start up in safe mode .You can google how.

Restart and hold down COMMAND-SHIFT-P-R until you hear 2 separate startup *chimes*. It resets your PRAM which stores weird crap like some settings, desktop info, etc... Good luck.

If it boots up, you aren’t totally screwed.

What types of files are missing? Are these usually stored in iCloud or only locally on the hard drive??

As others said - if it's still booting up, you are probably OK.
We need some more information to help diagnose the issue...

Are you sure you're logging into the same account as the one that has the files? I see this mistake often in families with multiple accounts.

When you say you did an iCloud search? Are you sure you were backing up to the cloud?

Any chance you have a Time Machine backup set up? That's a pretty easy way to go back to the date you last remember having the files and recover them.
