My dad is 93, and we got him the 65" samsung from Best Buy last year, basic TV with smart features, none of which he uses. Was less than $600. He has Cox Cable and the box and remote provided by Cox work seamlessly with his TV. He can speak to his remote for channel tuning, etc. I did get him the Samsung sound bar and wireless subwoofer as he tends to listen to the TV at a louder setting.

TCL and Hisense make great values for someone who uses their TV like that.
He may enjoy watching YouTube videos of games when there is nothing live to watch.

I was playing with an LG the other day, I was looking at a 75" for $750. The OS was slick, way better than Vizio, probably better than the android TV OS. The Vizio OS has tons of apps and is kind of easy to operate but it has bugs and is SLOW. The LG was fast and easy to use, would be easy to navigate for someone not tech savy.

When you pick one out go buy him a universal remote with only 4 buttons.

It will probably only be used for sports.
that doesnt tell us anything. app? cable tv?
how is he getting to sports?
if he's going to use an app then you cant beat a roku tv for ease of use.
if he's on cablevision, then he probably wont give a shite about the smart apps and he'll be using the cable tv remote anyway so all he'll care about is whether the tv turns ON and OFF.

No feedback for the suggestion.
Just kinda funny. My Gramps is 85. He has a rear projection tv he bought in 2001ish. It's a complete pile of shite.
I've been trying to talk him into replacing it for years.
It took me over a year to talk him out of paying for warranty coverage for the tv and a gas stove he bought at sears.
like $30 a month for coverage he paid this for 15+ years.
Good luck bud!
