Looking for a “rugged” external hard drive

I’m looking for a more impact resistant external hard drive for traveling.
Leaning towards SSD, despite the higher price point, and the only real brand I’m aware of is LaCie.
Any experience with this brand?
Any other recommendations?
I just want a transportable external HD that won’t break if it is bounced around a little.
Anyone who travels for work have any recs?

No matter what, go with an SSD external. You don't need to get a rugged one because SSDs have no internal moving parts that will "break" while traveling.
So basically any normal external SSD will be fine

That’s what I was thinking, but wanted confirmation.
Thanks.

Depending on how much storage you need, consider a USB thumb drive.
256GB are now common for less than $40.

I've had good luck with WD Passports.

I like the SanDisk extreme and CalDigit tuff nano. Haven't had any close calls but they've held up well with fast-paced international travel and being thrown around in my photography backpacks, etc.

I've seen 2TB flash drives, can't speak to speed or reliability. SSD is likely more robust.
Years ago, I used a USB drive to move data from a process control computer to my work computer (pre-Stuxnet). One day I lost it, forgot about it and got another one. About a year later, I looked down in the gravel of the parking lot and spotted the remains of the old drive. It was worse for wear but the connector was mostly intact. Plugged it in and the damn thing still worked! I know, CSB.

I'd buy a 2TB SSD. And stick it in a rugged external drive enclosure, like: USB-A or USB-C.
This is probably the best solution. You can decrease size even more using an M.2 drive and enclosure, but that would increase price

Didn’t even think of this. That is a great option.
Thanks.
Thanks.
