I figured this was the place to post this question. I have four inset light fixtures that are 18 years old. These fixtures are connected to a dimmer switch. Incandescent light bulbs dim perfectly. However, not only do LCD and Fluorescent not dim properly, after a certain amount of time they "brown out". In other words they will dim out without anyone touching the switch. Anyone else ever experience this?

They make LED specific dimmer switches. You probably need to change yours out if its not working with them.

LED specific dimmer switches

Had to change on in my bathroom. The LED's would slightly flicker every 30 seconds or so. Not all the way off, and not always noticeable, but on a very dim setting you would see it. Switched the switch out and no more issues.

honestly, buy better LED bulbs. good bulbs wont do this but as the other poster said, they do make LED-specific dimmers but thats getting to be less of a concern as more and more LEDs support the older dimmers.

i have rotary dimmers all over my house that are 30+ years old and work fine with all my LEDs except some shitty walmart and utilitech bulbs i bought which i just took back and got better ones.

eta when lowes put the utilitech led bulbs on sale for 99 cents for black friday, that should have been my first clue

Sorry for the typo. I did mean LED. And I have tried multiple LED light bulbs. All the way up to $10 a piece. As well as multiple types of fluorescent.

They work fine at first. Then after being on for a couple of hours they just go very dim. Turn them off for a while and back on again.....same thing. I have tried a new dimmer switch but not LED specific.

By the way.........Incandescent bulbs work with no issue.

I'm having problems with led bulbs, I find them either too bright (daylight) or too dim (soft white). Do they even make natural white in led?

With LED lamps, get a 2700K color temperature if you want to keep the look/color of regular incandescents...IMO the 3000K lamps look a little better, a little bit more of a crisp white light
