At home.
Laptop says connected to WiFi.
Won’t connect.
Webpage just sits there and loads forever.
Restarted, ran diagnostics, reset modem. I’m stumped.
Brand new laptop. HP

Is there an outage with your ISP?

Does not mean there is not an internet outage with your ISP

Ah. Then maybe so.
How do I check this?

what happens when you plug into the router ? Is the laptop the only thing you are trying ?

Make sure DHCP is enabled. You can view that by going to the command line and entering ipconfig/all. Verify that DHCP Enabled says 'YES'. This should be enabled by default, but you never know.

Well it's something he should look at to see if that's causing his internet connectivity issue. It's not like I was walking him through how to enter a static IP address.

Try going to "manage network connections" (or something similar) and "forget" the wifi you are connecting to.
Reboot the computer (probably not necessary but what does it hurt), then reconnect to the wifi network. You should need to reenter your wifi password.
Hopefully this works. Good luck.

Thanks all. Will try each one until I get a solution.

Start -> Run -> type:
cmd
Then hit the Enter button on your keyboard or click the OK button on the Run window.
Type:
ping www.yahoo.com
Do you see something like this:
Pinging atsv2-fp-shed.wg1.b.yahoo.com [72.30.35.10] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 72.30.35.10: bytes=32 time=54ms TTL=251
Reply from 72.30.35.10: bytes=32 time=57ms TTL=251
Reply from 72.30.35.10: bytes=32 time=52ms TTL=251
Reply from 72.30.35.10: bytes=32 time=52ms TTL=251
If you get no replies (and especially if it does not resolve the yahoo address to an IP) then try plugging the laptop directly into your router and try running the ping command again.
Let us know the results.

There should be some built-in troubleshooter. It's mostly crap, but sometimes it fixes problems for my HP laptop. You can also try going into device manager and updating your wireless adapter driver.
As said, connect an ethernet cable between laptop and router. That will probably let you know if it's wifi or not.
Pretty much every brand new laptop has these problems.
HP has pretty good customer service. Could email or call. I've gotten help both ways.
Could also try to connect to someone else's network or tether to phone. Might can eliminate possibilities. My guess is it's your wireless adapter driver no quite working properly.
