If they squared out the edges you'd lose screen space. And I hope to God they never go to a square form factor.

I don't know why the bar at the bottom bothers so many people.

I gave you a reason in an earlier post, along with a reason why the rounded bottom corners don't work well with text when the full width of the screen is used.

And it’s super nitpicking, but I don’t like the curved screen at the bottom. I prefer the squared edges of the 8+ and before. It’s like they did it just to say they did it instead of doing it with a purpose.

They wanted the whole surface of the X to be screen, and that was the purpose. There had to be a camera at the top, and they weren't going to use square corners for the phone itself, so the X is what you get.

The new design alone makes this 10x better than previous iPhone versions. That old design was stale AF. And the screen/size ratio on the X is flawless IMO.

I mean, I guess. But that's purely personal preference and not an objective issue. Who's reading text regularly at the very bottom of the screen anyway?

FaceID has been pretty flawless for me.

Wish I could say the same. Face ID is really great. It just doesn't work for me whenever I have my glasses off and have to squint really hard to see my phone. Sucks being blind. :(

Might try to redo the Face ID with the phone a bit further back?

Might do that. I also look a good bit difference since I originally did the scan (long beard and hair are gone now). That could be affecting it too, maybe.

It's not really a big deal imo.

Uh, this is about as objective as it gets.

Besides being ugly and distracting, it calls attention to the fact that the big screen isn't really usable corner to corner for full page content, and the slimmer the margins on the sides, the worse the effect.

Heard it many times but never said it before now, but Steve would never have approved this. At the very least, the bar would not be overstriking text or more generally, overlaying content.

Steve probably wouldn't have approved of essentially every decision that's been made since he died.

It's subjective that it's an issue. It doesn't bother me in the least.

Again, who's reading the bottom line of an article like that anyway? The overall design aesthetic to me is much better with the screen all the way to the edges than had they squared the screen off within the current form factor.

I'll grant everyone complaining about the little bar at the bottom, which I don't think is really necessary. My best guess is that's just a visual cue for people who were so used to having a button there. But once that becomes the norm (which I think it will) I don't really see a reason for that anymore.

I fundamentally don't get that question and your opinions on these things so I'm out of discussing this with you.

Chose the 8+ over the X and content with my decision. I considered the X more of a “first gen” product and the 8+ more “refined” albeit familiar.

Was coming from a 6 + so anything was going to be a big upgrade for me. Would love to have the edge to edge oled display but wasn’t big on the notch or Face ID. To me, the screen wasn’t worth an extra $200.

If Apple releases the rumored X Plus next year though, I’ll be all over that. As much as I hate to say it, i think the notch is here to stay.

Not talking about the quick switch between apps you just had open. Getting to the full app switcher which you also use to close out apps is shite.

Quick trick instead of holding down halfway make an upside down L from the bottom of the screen. Much easier way to get to app switcher.

This phone is a piece of shite. I donno why I got it. Seriously, the face ID shite only works when it actually knows it's upright. The phone had a lot of static noises when I was speaking with separate people (design flaw there). It won't even upgrade to the newest OS for me for some reason.

I'm switching to android next time.

Not really. There was a mass outcry against the no headphone jack.

You still have to hold down a fricking app that's open to even get to that screen though and then hold ANOTHER app on the next screen to get to that screen. You don't see the issue there?
