Just got home internet for the first time in 10 years/old computer question

So I had home internet installed today with an Ethernet connection and wifi because I work from home, and doing it from my phone/going to places with public Wi-Fi was getting tedious.
Anyway I have a gateway PC from roughly 2010 and it last had windows 7 software on there. Needless to say websites no longer support the default internet explorer browser so it’s difficult/not possible to go to a bunch of websites and those I can go to are distorted in a way. And I am unable to go to websites to download other browsers
Is it possible for me to be able get this computer/software up to date or am I just SOL and need to go buy a new computer?

1. Get thumb drive.
2. Download Debian OS latest version.
3. Download balena etcher.
4. Burn Debian iso to thumb drive via balena etcher.
5. Reboot to thumb drive
6. Choose install w/ GNOME GUI, do not choose web server or other GUIs.
Gnome is super easy to use for basic web activity but there will be limitations with a 15 year old machine even with the lightest of software as web pages themselves often load resource intensive plugins.
Support is super easy. Google or copilot will answer any question.
Also you can get a decent computer to run windows 11 for around $100 on eBay if you want to exit the Stone Age.
2010 means your hardware may be even older than that and lacking things like AES instructions that essential for computing today.

make sure the date/time is correct on the computer and then try going to the websites again.

Firefox should still work on Windows 7.
But you might not be able to get here with Internet Explorer - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/windows/

Without being so harsh, for less than $200 the OP could buy a chromebook or mini computer that would run circles around a windows 7 machine.
Amazon mini computers
Amazon Chromebooks

I tried the method that Dallas had mentioned but wasted SO MUCH time and then ultimately purchase one of those mini pc's and works like a champ. Decided on a GMKtec which has been working great with the exception of a little fan noise but I just turn my speakers up.

Decided to just get a laptop. I work from home like I said but it’s always nice to have one to take on the go. Probably gonna pull everything I need off this old PC then maybe stash it in the attic

Recycle it. no point in stashing it somewhere.
