I'm looking for advice. Fairly new into the IT sector doing helpdesk work at the moment.

I'm hoping to get into a cyber security analyst-esque role down the line.

I only have A+ certification and am thinking about working on getting CCNA and/or SEC+ when I have time in the near future.

After getting these what would be the next certs I should look into? CISA maybe?

Thanks.

My $.02 is do the CCNA over the sec+. The best security engineers I know have excellent networking knowledge. Know plenty of security analysts that don’t have networking backgrounds and they’re not the most efficient at what they do. CCNA is also specialized in the Cisco product whereas sec+ is more of a broad knowledge based cert.

Are you working currently? Do you have any IT background? Just curious.

I’ve never hired someone with a cert on their resume that wasn’t commensurate with any of the positions. But if you’re shooting for network side then maybe Net+ as next baseline cert. look into aws/azure certs…

I'd say CCNA or NET+. I haven't had any issues with jobs looking for individuals with certs though.

I took the Azure AZ-500, Security Engineer back in February.

But that was only because my company said they would give me a raise if I took it.

Get experience and immerse youreslf in security issues and practices, show that to your emoployer, put it on your resume. Get a cert when you feel the time is right.

My recommendation would be start with Security+ or SSCP. After that CySA+/PenTest+ or CCSP/CAP/CSSLP with the goal of reaching CASP+/CISSP/CISM. Cybersecurity is the correct path!

CCNA is a fantastic intro to networking IMO. It was the first cert I got when I didn't know the first thing about networking. The test is alot different (harder) than when I got it in the mid 2000's, but the cert still very useful.

Same here, roughly the same time. Is it harder now? Once I could do subnet calculations in my head without pen & paper, that test became super easy. I haven't maintained my CCNA for 10 years though.
