I built a web site 15 or so years ago and pay an annual fee. The site is a sports web site so it has a lot of data and that data is added to each year.

I have recently found that I am unable to copy and paste from Excel to a website I built like I always have.

Web.com says the site builder I use only works with IE 7 or earlier and they can’t transfer to a new format.

I called the local PC repair Guy I use about moving back to IE 7 and he advised against it. I asked if he sold old laptops with IE 7. The answer was no.

Is there a simple, talk to me like I’m a 6th grader, answer to this problem. Thank you.

Try the IE Tab extension for Chrome.

quote:

IE Tab exactly emulates IE by using the IE rendering engine directly within Chrome. This will enable you to use ActiveX controls and test your web pages with different versions of IE (IE6, IE7, IE8, or IE9).

-- FEATURES --

* Create a list of URLs that will automatically open in IE Tab

* Group Policy support for enterprise deployments

* Securely use the old IE rendering engine

Yep, your website is built on 1990 era technology that can only be edited with proprietary "web.com" software. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but you will need to rebuild the site. IE7 was released in 2006 and simply does not have the security patches and updates to use safely in 2020.

I suppose you could get an old laptop and limp it along for a while, but you are delaying the inevitable.

EDIT: Advice from TAMU-93 above might just work! Again, to my point, these are quick fixes. You are not guaranteed that web.com will continue to support this editor that only works for IE7.

I'm confused what you are trying to do. First, you don't need to buy a whole new computer just to run IE 7. You also don't have to "Move back to IE 7" just to use it occasionally. For instance, if you have IE 7 installed on your computer you are not forbidden from using the most recent version of Chrome or whatever other browser you want to explore the vast landscapes of the internet. I would try googling "install IE 7 [your version of windows]". Second, it sounds like you are doing a process very inefficiently, if you would like help with that post some more details about your process and I may be able to help you out.

Here’s my situation as best I can explain it.

The laptop I have now has IE 10 on it. I don’t have access to a PC with IE 7.

I use my IPad for 95% of what I do online. I mainly use this lap top for that web site and to manage the 30K song iTunes library I have. YES, I am stuck in old technology with music and this website.

This is my home computer so I virtually never even print documents from this PC.

I originally looked into disabling IE 10 and downloading IE 7. I thought I followed all of the instructions but that didn’t work. Again, I am not tech savvy.

I am perfectly ok having this laptop dedicated to this web site and my iTunes library.

I'll throw my hat in the ring along with Fat Batman. If you aren't comfortable posting details about the site here, you can email me at my username at gmail.

You can't keep relying on 15 year old software, you're going to keep having to jump through more and more hoops. You're going to have to modernize your process and your site. There's got to be a better way than copying data from a spreadsheet. You can probably automate the whole thing.
