Is there an economical device for kids to receive Wi-Fi for school?

Many parishes are unable to require that assignments be completed because portions of their student body do not have access to Wi-Fi. Schools can check out laptops to those students, but they still do not have Wi-Fi. Are there any devices that can bridge that gap? Like a cell signal box that creates a Wi-Fi hotspot for a certain period of time?
Some schools with denser populations are delivering buses with Wi-Fi capability, that might provide Wi-Fi access for one large apartment complex. Students are not allowed to board the bus, but the Wi-Fi signal is available for several hundred feet.

A regular hotspot would do it.

OK thanks, I didn’t realize that was a thing. Looks like you can get a skyroam for $100 to $200, and it can be hooked up to a service provider, or they offer a day pass for $8 to $10.

A lot of ISPs across the country offer low cost internet plans for low income individuals.

Most smartphones can act as a WiFi hot spot.

See if your local library offers hotspots too.

Why bother?....Public school parents arent going to go to the trouble of educating their kids at home even if you ran gigabit internet to every housing unit in America for free.

Verizon offers unlimited data hotspots for $40/month through government/school contracts.
The federal government could loosen guidelines for erate funding which would allow schools to be refunded up to 90% of the cost.. it's currently being discussed.
