Is HDR Really Worth It?

Getting a new HTD (cutting cable) and I've narrowed my search down to two 4k displays. They're the exact same size and screen resolution. They're basically the same display but one has HDR and the price is $200 more.
I've heard that you need to stream HDR content to get the true experience. Will it still improve picture quality even if streaming regular HD content?
For reference the two I'm looking at are:
Vizio M55-D0
Vizio E55-E2
ETA: If the HDR is not really worth the extra money, I would use what I save to get a decent sound bar.

Yes, but not at that price point. That's more faux HDR, get the cheaper one.

I don't know much about Vizios but at 700 bucks I highly doubt it has a 10 bit panel to even do the HDR justice. You buying a cheap arse TV why not go with the cheapest ?

Sorry that I'm on a budget and that's all the display I need.

Don't be a dick

Nah you're just being a snob.

Part of the reason now that Vizio's are so cheap is that they are actually monitors not TV's anymore. They do not contain an internal tuner.

Which is perfect for me. I won't need the internal tuner and having the built in chromecast will let me stream anything I need. Plus, if I really wanted to set up an antenna all it takes is a cheap conversion to HDMI to allow for local programming.

Not really, they are about the same as any other brand across their various lines. Their top selling full featured series (P) that competes with the best selling Samsung KS series is priced the exact same.

Everything that I've read says that HDR is more pertinent to picture quality than 4K resolution.

Very true. But just because a TV says HDR doesn't mean it has a panel that can actually reproduce the colors.

Can you afford the p-series?

Yes, absolutely worth it IMO. I don't know much about those displays or what kind of content you're looking at. Your room is also going to have an influence on it too. HDR disc is going to be better than HDR streaming as well.
I've got a 4K HDR projector in my theater and a OLED 4k HDR panel in my living room. HDR content is much more enjoyable than "regular".
I'm watching the 4k HDR John Wick disc on my Sony 675es projector as we speak. I can turn off the HDR on it or on my Oppo. Doing an A/B test confirms how much richer the PQ is with HDR

There is a reason that projector retails for $10K. Heck your screen should cost more than the two displays mentioned in the OP.

If the projector can be gotten at 10k, that's a helluva deal!
