If you want a service plan that would prolly be your best bet. Geek service plans include on site repair should you ever have problems. Just bought a 51"Samsung plasma back in July. Love it!

Best Buy is the best place to pick out the TV you want then buy it from Amazon and save the tax.

Best Buy can be good. They'll often have BB specific models that have same specs and panels as equivalent models for a little cheaper. Also great to see them in person, although I wouldn't completely use that as a judge of the picture.

But I buy mine from Amazon.

Figure out what you want (by going to BB or somewhere else) and then find the best price online. Right now, my suggestion would be to buy nothing until BF because you'll overpay at this moment. The last TV I bought was at Costco, but BB has good deals, as does Amazon, Fry's, MicroCenter, etc. You just never know; find what you want and then find the best deal!

Costco automatically adds a second year warranty and they have extended warranties at a cheaper price

Might be the most convenient and they do offer decent warranties, but

I don't have a Sam's membership, but I know Costco always offers great deals vs. the big electronics competitors here in DFW. (Fry's, Best Buy, etc.)
