I know there is sofa baton but i hear it sucks. My Harmony Elite is still going strong but the battery life sucks now and any replace meant is the same.
Im just wondering what im going to do when this thing dies.

Control 4 is pretty good, but expensive and terrible for tinkerers.
Most the HA stuff works, but I think tablet control over a physical remote is a travesty.

i had control4 years ago. I even had my installers log in so i could edit the software but i didnt like it. Lightning took it out.
I have HA but right now harmony is so easy. I hate Logitech shut it down.

Do you have the Harmony hub? If so, you could just use your phone/tablet to control until a better solution comes out.
I've got 2 Harmony Elites at my house. So if one dies then, I have a backup. Though if the one my mom has dies, she'll get priority on the backup.
I've seen this remote mentioned on reddit. Apparently they're in the process of fulfilling the kickstarter. Hardware looks good; guess will see how it actually pans out.

If i was them, i would recreate the Harmony lineup and put in their best features.

quote:how does it compare to harmony with the hub? My AV stuff is in a closet, so if IR is needed for a device without IP control there would need to be a hub with IR.
The new flirc remote is nice.

I bought one and it works well.
Thinking about ti though idk if i have anything IR in there right now.
Reddit reviews arent great

I think HDMI-ARC killed it. The times I needed to pick up anything but the Roku remote while watching TV were close to zero in the last four or five years.
For automation, I'd prefer SmartThings over other options. Just buy stuff that is compatible with Matter.

If you have stuff in a closet the Flirc remote won't help. It needs line of sight IR.
I have a harmony hub as well but I have everything in the living room.

Yall might scoff at it but I got rid of my harmony setup for the fire cube. It allows one remote for all my AV stuff. I then purchased the elite remote and like it a lot

quote:do you not have surround sound? multiple inputs that are not a roku? because ARC does not solve that.

quote:if you are just useing a streaming box, you do not need a full harmony setup... but if you are running an AV receiver, with say a Shield, PS5, RPi emulator, XBox. you need something to control the receiver.

Nope, I use a Denon 5.1, LG tv, and a fire cube. All are able to be used with one remote

Shield is a better equipment for streaming but it's a good bit more pricey and you still need a harmony.
I don't know about other inputs but we don't have an issue using a switch on the TV also

quote:this is what i do not want to do. I want to click watch tv on my elite and it turns on my tv, turns my receiver to input 4, and the elite controls the shield and the volume on the receiver. Then i can click play PS and it changed the receiver to input 5, and changed the remote to control the PS.

i DO think streaming devices simplified all this as it removed DVS players, Blue Ray players, etc. and MOST people just have a Streaming box and a TV.

I don't have anything else to control so it wasn't needed

Yep. I do all that with my Harmony and even set it so I can just say Alexa Play XBox, Alexa Turn on PS5, Alexa Play Nintendo, Alexa Turn off TV, etc...
