Same here. Called att and they told me to call Apple. I’m hold now
why would they make you call Apple when you bought it from at&T. crazy support people.

I question this too, but honestly who knows. They’re the type to force things on people if they see it as the future. Having a FP scanner would have voided out much of the purpose of FaceID.
They also ditched the headphone jack like NBD while everyone went crazy on them.
...and now those same people are ogling their new Pixel phones. Ain’t that right, rockets?

I worry that they might spin FaceID hard enough to actually kill TouchID instead of bringing it back in the next X. This isn't the floppy disk or the headphone jack. It was a central UI element that everyone understood and worked very well.
They could have easily placed it on the back or even put it where the headphone jack was before. I'll admit I can see why they didn't include it if they're trying to showcase Face ID. Samsung kinda did it when they placed their fingerprint sensor in stupidest possible spot.

I think the true purpose of FaceID isn't authentication, it's Augmented Reality. The animojis and SnapChat filters are the first steps in developers figuring out AR enough so it becomes a killer app. In a year or 2 they add the same camera tech to the other side of the phone and all of a sudden you have a serious AR device and the developers will have a better handle on making AR useful instead of just fun.
Think about it, this camera tech is part of the justification for the higher price point. Samsung and Goolge look ready to follow Apple there, but all of the cheap low end phones may not. Do the people buying $500 or less phones now really want to pay $700-$800 for a Huawei phone with AR tech even though it's still several hundred dollars cheaper than the name brand versions? I think they won't want to or can't afford to and Apple will have created a tech gap to justify it's continued place as king of the hill. No doubt the Galaxy and Pixel will match tech features and price in a new arms race, but at this price point the commoners will be left behind and the iPhone will once again become the desired phone and brand. Or at least that's what I imagine Apple's plan is.

True, but none of that is yet reality. Stringing along and half-assing it’s face detection technology won’t force third party developers into incorporating it into their apps. Doing it the way they did will begin to almost force the hand of third party developers to do so in the immediate future.
Had FP scanning been kept on this phone, apps wouldn’t need to use FaceID for anything, as FP scanning would bypass the need for it.

Not sure if I like True Tone on or off... seems pretty yellow tinged with it on.

I don’t think it’s AT&T, I think it’s something with iTunes. I fought with Verizon for awhile, but my SIM cards worked fine in other phones. I think Apple owns the activation frick up.
Got mine working as wel.

When I turn True Tone off it looks more blueish. In a room that is lit I see white, when I turn the lights off it gets a tad yellow.

I know its an extra step but if you swipe from the upper right down towards the left it's there.
Have a feeling with the complaints they will put it back in but that would have to replace the battery due to no more space.
Edit you can also ask Siri, "Hey Siri, whats my battery"

I'm about to leave town in like 15 minutes and UPS hasn't delivered.
My delivery date now says rescheduled but it's still today.

How is it an extra step? Before, you place your finger on the home button and click it, now you simply just swipe up. Both require “one step” from the user.

Line isn’t long at all at my mall. Got a 5:30-6:00 window and I’m first in line.
It’s 5:31 and I don’t have my iPhone X yet. I’m pissed.

Well I'm android and you don't have to click. I'm sorry but picking the phone up, looking at it to unlock, then swiping up is 2 steps.

That's two for the face. You have to put it at the same angle. Finger print is naturally one step if it's positioned right.
