by consumer reports

The organization ranked the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus as the top two devices when it comes to performance. The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with Samsung’s 2016 Galaxy S7 sitting in the third position. That’s right, Consumer Reports thinks the 18-month-old Galaxy S7 is a better phone than either new iPhone 8 model.

Where is the consumer reports report? The BGR article you link said they called the 8 Plus the #1 phone, so that doesn't help your cause since CR is basically a joke these days.

But the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are still great phones. In fact, we called the 8 Plus the best smartphone in the world right now, boring though it may be.

I can't find the actual CR article but the are multiple places reporting this. Here's Toms Hardware with a little more detail

In a new rating Consumer Reports has released, the testing organization has awarded the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ scores of 81 out of a possible 100, topping the iPhone 8's score of 80. What's worse, despite receiving the same score, Consumer Reports actually recommends the Galaxy S7, with its own score of 80, over Apple's new handsets.

honestly at this point it's pretty moot. Every flagship phone on the market is good.

Which is exactly why they are shaking things up by jacking up prices and losing ports people use. They need to make phones suck again so new models in a few years are improvements.

CR has been a joke for awhile now, and it has nothing to do with cellphones. Their car reviews are great for laughs.

i dont like samsung phones because of the bloat; not because the hardware is bad.
so i get where roger is coming from. i bought my wife a swappa-6+ and a couple weeks later iOS updated and she thinks she has the LATEST & GREATEST APPLE TECH now.
i have to admit its pretty nice and the intergration with her watch is slick.
having said that i will never raise an iphone to my ear and the few times ive tried to search for something on her phone i'm horrified at the experience. you cant just google something without jumping through a few hoops.

It's at most one click more or just a simple Siri request.

yeah i do that. but the search results are AWFUL.
try to do an image search. in google i just say 'ok google show me x' and then hit the images tab
on an iphone i have yet to figure out how to switch my results to images, i get this shitty apple-results page that i cant make heads or tails of

not really
say i want to use google maps, a far superior maps app than apple maps. (its been around longer, has more data, images, etc.)
one can not tell siri to search for a location unless apple maps is installed
it literally will not allow me to integrate siri with google maps
i have to use the apple version.
its sickening really.

i love iphone for the imessage, battery life, and airdrop. excellent experiences here.
but everything else is backwards, restricting, and basic.
its honestly a phone made for a teenage girl.

You're notoriously anti apple.
I'll switch back. Samsung colors are over saturated and it's constantly freezing. I really don't need 30 choices of star maps. One thing my apple products are, quality.

BTW im messing with you mostly but dont give me this quality shite when Apple is going through more quality control issues than anyone else.

CAD is right
I like my iPhone fine, but Siri is total dogshit compared to Google Now, and always has been
Apple search will start popping up places on the other side of the country right off the bat, while Google focuses on anything with something close to that name anywhere around you.
