Come to the realization that these phones were not meant to last 4 1/2 years.

I’ve seen these symptoms is a past life, there are a few things to try. First, using a higher wattage charger (20w instead of 5w) may get the phone to start up. Also, check that there isn’t debris in the lightning port preventing the phone from receiving the charge. Lastly try placing the phone into recovery mode by tapping volume up, tapping volume down, then holding the power button when the phone turns on from the battery trap screen. This may allow the device to trickle charge.
As to the cause, it can vary if none of these steps work. Most often I’ve seen this with logic board failure of some sort.

Had same issue just recently iPhone 6 took it into a repair shop and not sure what he did but he got it to reset and download an update. Total cost 20.00$

I’d clean the port pretty thoroughly and maybe grab a new cord.
Alternate, can the 8 charge on a pad?
