re: iPhone 7 or Galaxy S7- trying to decide

Color: Yes, of course, they are SELLING MUSIC. They are not integrating any iOS core features to Android apps or any other platform. Is iTunes available on major OSes, of course. I backup/sync to my Windows laptop. This does not mean Apple is tearing down their walled-garden philosophy. We don't own any other Apple products except for my children's iPads. I love the interoperability of Android and its openness: Can directly import .flac, .epub, any movie format, just for starters. Impossible with iOS. This isn't an argument for or against either platform.

I've had an iPhone since the 3G.
Last year I switched from a 5 to an Android Galaxy S6 Edge + mainly just to try something new and because of all the people who said going Android was the best decision they've made.
I'll be pre-ordering the 7+ tomorrow.
There are only a few things I like about the android device, but many more that I don't. I regret switching and knew after about a month that I would be going back to an iPhone.
Pros:
File explorer
Fast charging (don't even own a wireless charger bc it has to be sitting on the pad and it takes 6 hours)
Cons:
Thumbprint sensor is slow.
Apps and everything in general are a bit slower and far less smooth.
The UI isn't nearly as intuitive as iOS.
It isn't very customizable like you are led to believe.
The Edge display is really a gimmick and makes things like texting one handed far more difficult.
I was excited about swype but on a screen that large it doesn't work very well, so I don't use it.
My data usage has tripled while my usage habits have not. Android has so much stuff running in the background that there's a constant gps signal and data stream using my data/battery. I get messages about places I've visited to review publicly on google and what traffic is like on my commute to work, which I never enabled but it did on its own.
It puts together slideshows of my pictures/videos that I can't disable.
It freezes constantly whereas I can count on one hand in almost 10 years of iOS usage having to restart.
Unless you're really unhappy with your iPhone I recommend sticking with it. If you're just looking to change it up I can almost guarantee you'll go back.

I do believe you. I have the newest Nexus Tablet w/ the newest version of Android. It is a year newer than my iPhone 6. How long has has Android been out and there is still "Oops, this app has appeared to stop responding. Wait | Close" or some other such message. I haven't seen any such message on iOS ever. If it doesn't work it just closes back to the Springboard and you relaunch.
I have 37 apps total on my Nexus and 78 on my phone. Play Game of War. On iPhone, smooth, responsive. On Nexus, laggy, clunky, scroll down inventory list and it just stops, wait a few seconds and it'll catch up or move too far.
Google's integration of their platform is great: docs, books, videos, pictures. I don't think the problem is Google. The problem with Android is their are too many developer hands in the proverbial cookie jar. Had Google just taken Android completely in-house and released the APIs to developers, I think we would probably see the seemlessness and dependability that has been the cornerstone of iOS.

iMessage's new features will only make things worse for texting to non-iOS devices
I have had an iphone for 6 years, this year I made the switch to the Note 7. While I very much enjoy the phone and think its awesome I miss my iphone.
I got lucky due to the recall and will be exchanging my Note7 for the Iphone 7 Plus here in a week.
Imessage is one of the biggest reasons. literally EVERY person I communicate withhas an iphone. And it sucks losing imessage and going to shitty SMS messages again.
My advice is while the Galaxy is a sexy and fun device if you are used to iphones and communicate with mostly iphone users DONT switch

No problem. It's not like there's an incredible new design to the actual phone. I like it, but it's incredibly similar to Samsung's new phone that I saw this weekend. They are stating that everything from the case, glass, and adhesives used in the 7 have been improved, and based on their previous products, I'm sure they are. However: I would never take my phone out of the box without having a 9H glass screen protector in hand and a good silicone (like Speck) that also has an outer harder protector that fits over the silicone for add'l protection. I have never had an Otterbox and never cracked or had a scratch on any phone. I want it as thin and portable as possible, but have the protection if it falls out of my pocket and lands on the asphalt w/o any damage. There is simply no point in not buying a glass screen protector ($3-5) and a thin Speck or other case ($25 at Sam's Club) for such an expensive investment.

Gator: It can't be said enough. It's like every year (or every 2 years in my case) the dread of sticker shock from Apple. In the case of iPhone you get what you overpay for
. iMessage alone is a tremendous reason to stay with iOS. You know if they got the message (even if they turn of Read at XXXX time), you know the phone received the message SECURELY end-to-end. That's why the gov't hates it and Apple has no problem letting them put servers b/c only the sender/receiver can encrypt/decrypt the messages. That combined with the simplicity of FaceTime. Everything is so thoroughly designed to the point of fanaticism.

I'm hanging on to my Note 7 as long as I can too..greatest phone ever.

If you send someone a simple message or a picture, can you tell if they ever received it? (I mean texting, not using another messaging application.)

I have never owned an iPhone, but it's the leader right now. I hate Samsung, so it would have to be a different manufacturer that is AT&T compatible.

I've used iPhones since the 3. I just switched to the S7 edge. I love it. I was sick of apple. Every iPhone I every owned eventually slowed to a crawl and wad a pain to use. My favorite thing about the galaxy so far is swipe texting and the fact that I can put SD chips in it.
And it just feels more free than the iPhone ever did.

I was an iPhone guy since the original all the way to the 5.
Then I tried a galaxy s5 and now have the 7 edge. After having the iPhone so long at first I wasNY sure about the switch but now I'm glad I did.
Just seems like I can do more and I haven't had any freezing problems like others report

All of you pick the shittiest manufacturer for android OS, bitch about it and blame the OS for the Manufacturer's shortcomings. Then tuck tail and run back to Apples garbage. Apple is the reason all of you are narrow minded idiots that dont research before you switch. Iphone IS Apple, but SAMSUNG IS NOT GOOGLE ANDROID.If you want a pure, untampered Android experience, pick a pure android device. Do some research before jumping on the most heavily advertised "Android" device on the market. I guarantee 95% of iphone users looking to switch think Samsung is the best/only android device out there for said switch. Well, news flash. You want to pit Android against iOS? You'll need a Nexus device for that. Not interested in Nexus? The closest next thing is the Moto X Pure or One Plus 3. All great devices running a better platform of Android than fricking Samsungs garbage bloated version called touchwiz.
Dont believe me about the average apple to android switching end user? Every fricking thread about it here is about switching to a Samsung device.

I'm with you on the freezing issues. And my S7 has been noticeably faster than any iPhone I've ever upgraded to.
