I'm currently building a house and the new digs has a covered patio with a fire place. The Mrs. and myself want to put a TV out there and I was wondering if you guys had any advice or experience with using an indoor tv instead of dropping the coin for an outdoor tv. Good idea to use an indoor TV on the covered patio or should I sack up and pay for an outdoor tv?

TIA

Just get a cheap indoor. They last longer than you would think. Can buy 3 or 4 and still be cheaper than outdoor tv.

Yep, what he said.

If its not exposed to rain then you're fine with an indoor. Mine has been up for 5 years now and it still works like new. It shouldnt be a problem.

Save your money. Its a good time of year to get a good deal as well

get a cheap TV and add a square warranty if you are concerned it won't last outside.

You do not need an “outdoor” tv or enclosure

My Samsung has been outside going on 7 years now

I scooped up a Toshiba Amazon Fire TV Edition on Prime Day and have had it outside with no problem. I keep a cover on it when it's not in use and to keep dirt and pollen off of it.

Enclosures are good for theft protection though, keeps it slightly out of sight, but you dont need one if its covered

where are you located?

The life of the TV depends on the humidity of your area. In South LA, the humidity is horrendous. There are many morning you can wake up and everything is soaken wet, not from rain but from condensation.

Best way to fight against this it so leave your TV on. it will keep the board hot and air will not condensate. Turn off the energy saver and after about 10 mins of no signal your TV will just go to a black screen.

My last TV lasted 3 years like that and even got directly rained on a few times. IMO it only went out becuase it was turned off for a night where everything go wet.

I went through this decision a few years ago with the company that installed all my smart home and audio/video.

The outdoor TVs at the time were relatively expensive - like 8 or 9 times the cost of same TV for indoors. The advice I got from the installer was to buy indoor TVs and if they were ruined by the elements just replace with another of the same kind.

I've had a cheap Vizio on my covered porch in Prairieville for several years now. Works just fine.

All of this. Plus, if in 3-4 years you do need to replace it, you will either spend less money for the equivalent product or pay the same and have an upgraded tv on your patio. It just makes sense to go the cheap indoor route in my opinion.

I bought a cheap Vizio a while back, but I don't leave it outside all the time. I have the same TV mount outside as I do inside. So when I'm done using it outside I just hang it on the mount inside.

I’ve had a 32” Vizio for 8 years that I have been hoping would die and it refuses. I just took it down and put up a 43” for the game this weekend. Have not told my wife yet lol..

Get one of these for your size TV to help with elements.
