identifying Cat 6 locations

Ok so posted a couple times about the house i am building. Long story short, my electrician ran all the cat 6 cabling to a central location, but he did not label anything. Normally not a big deal but 6 of these wires need to be POE and my switch is not a poe switch as unifi has been sold out of the 24 poe switch for a while now.
i could plug each one in indvidually to the poe injector and see which turns the AP on, but wondering if there is a quicker easier way.

I have one of these, works great.
Don't use it often anymore bc I just bring the Fluke from work home

Plug them all into the switch with out POE. The ports that don't turn on are the ones that need POE. Once you put the injectors in you can then determine connections by Mac address table on your switch.
If no end devices exist the tone generator like above or even a cheap network cable tester would work.

Yea I "literally" already ordered and installed a non poe switch when it wasn't in stock. I'm not spending another chunk of change to avoid having 6 poe injectors.

You’re going to have issues scaling in the future but if it works for you then go for it.

The tone generator VABuckeye is all you need to ID drops.
This is also why you should always hire a low voltage contractor to install network cables, unless you want a headache like Mr 777 here

Also, make sure you get Ubiquiti POE injectors or they will likely not cover your equipment under any warranty should something go bad.

why? just add the injectors. Should have no scaling issues. and i shouldnt need to scale. this is a home, i have 6 Aps and every tv in the house is hard wired back. I didnt wire for fridge or other future tech, but damn with 6 Access points I should be able to handle that over wifi.
and if that is the case in the future I will simply order a poe switch. but currently all my cameras are running on a seperate security system, same with the ring doorbell.
i have the dream machine running to the switch to the APs and tvs. If i have to upgrade in the future I will just upgrade to Dream machine pro and a switch pro 48 poe if i really needed to.
honestly in the future I may have to add a switch flex max to upgrade or scale.
i mean its a damn house with 6 people total. already have done more than 99.99% of people have done.
i mean hell i havent even installed the last AP yet as I want to do a heat map after the att fiber gets installed next week, 99.9999% of people do not do anything close to that.
honestly that is my one complaint about this board. Too many people that do IT for a living do not understand the needs of a normal person or they get too much of a boner for all of this.
99% of people would be more than perfectly happy with a simply cable modem to simple router with a mesh system installed. 90% of people only have the modem and router. Just realize that before making recommendations.

I sure as hell would.

I wouldn't pay for that overpriced switch either

the most i would do would be to add a switch flex, but that would still leave me with one injector.
again, understand this is for a home running simple daily internet browsing and streaming.

I guess I just hate those injectors and 6 of them would drive me nuts
But I do have a Ubiquity AP and use the injector that came with it. So I guess I'm doing exactly the same thing.
If you are having to purchase the injectors, I would thing the flex would be a better option but if the injectors are already with you, powering them is the nuisance really.

well...of course the flex was sold out when i bought. the APs come with them unless you buy a 5 pack like i did
and yea i dont like it either and will prolly eventually replace them, but i have them mounted where they do look good.

Of Course

The OCD is strong in me so I sometimes make decisions that way. Not always smart. Would spend the money on the switch the guy linked and all the smaller offerings are sold out. Freaking chip shortages. Damn it.

i posted when i bought, literally 2 days later it came back in stock

doesnt matter though, i already have the switch and the injectors mounted and all my connections made up. its not that big of a deal to go through the different connections and figure out which is which.
