Do any good routers have a cable input? Any other suggestions? I've seen cable to ethernet converters but they're expensive.

You need a cable modem and a router or an all in one which I wouldn't go that route. I have a Surfboard SB8200 and orbi router with satellites.

Sounds like you have a combo modem/router, and almost all of those are not great IMO.
First I would check if you're paying a monthly rental fee for that thing. If you are, I would recommend buying your own modem so that you own it outright and return theirs to them. I do not have a specific recommendation for a modem, but I will recommend a modem-only that does not have wifi built in. Cox may have a page with models they recommend if you BYO. You will have to call them and read the numbers on the modem so they can activate it.
If you are not renting the modem/router, then you should be able to put it in "bridge" or "passthrough" mode so that it functions as only a modem and you can use a different router with it.
Then you will need a router. Many people are happy with pretty much any of the "mesh" wifi systems, though if your house isn't particularly large you may do just fine with a regular single point router.

There should be a way to enable bridge mode within the modem by going to it internal IP, (possibly printed somewhere on the modem) within your online account or by calling Cox.
At least this is the way it worked with Xfinity. I think I had to eventually call them when setting my parents Orbi mesh system. I could switch it off myself, but it would randomly cut itself back on until I called support. Has now been working for over 2 years, no issues.

They do have a list, you can start your research here. I am not well versed in modems and usually just go with the best Arris for the amount of money I want to spend.

Do you have cloud DVR? The new Cox boxes that store DVR in cloud gave my network a fit when trying to use a different modem and Google wifi. Had to switch back to the older cable boxes with built in hard drives.

No I have Uverse. I only have Cox because ATT can't get high speed to my house yet.
