Cad, the ShieldTV Pro comes with a built in Plex Media Server, but the star of the Shield is its ability to upscale incoming video so well that there are times I'm watching a sporting event that I know is either 1080p or mostly 720p and it is so clear that it appears to be 4K quality. I have YouTubeTV and didn't see much value in the 4K offerings they provide so didn't pay for it. All of the best sound, such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Dolby TrueHD, is processed by it. Not sure about Auro 3D.

The thing about Shield and Android/Google TV is it can sometimes be 'glitchy'. Not often, but they can freeze up after periods of consistent use. When that happens all you do is remove power and go through a reboot. Yeah, that can be annoying when it happens, but it's not often.

Shield is EoL. TVs have just as good and often better upscaling these days.

Shield was on my short list for sure but the hardware needs a refresh and everything I've been reading is comparing the onn devices to the shield and at 1/4 the price it's good for a gamble

ONN 4k Pro is on sale for $44 right now.

I’m thinking of moving to that just for the remote finder feature and moving the plus to another room. I’m so used to just tapping the button on the Roku Ultra whenever I can’t find the remote. Happens every day now that it’s winter and there’s 5-6 blankets on the couch.

maybe its the TCL tv processor or something,

As the owner of a shitty Hisense with Andoird OS, who can't use the OS to stream b/c it's so slow, I think this is the bigger issue

bump.

this is no-contest

roku ultra is on its way back to amazon already.

the ONN is literally 2-3x as fast as the ultra and not a single streaming/playback hiccup now.

interesting, the roku ultra form factor and ONN are almost identical.

can't tell much from this pic, but this is sideloaded plexamp running a visualization. very cool. total setup time including going into developer mode to sideload apps was maybe 20-25 minutes tops.

so far 2 thumbs up!

Does a button on the side help you find your lost remote? That’s the feature I’m after.

yes. its on the box itself and makes your remote beep.
