I live in SW La and I have rural internet coverage which amounts to about 12mb download speeds. I rarely get that as the whole service is shared between 8 people in the family with 4 kids that do gaming. I spoke with my internet provider who said they placed a bid with the federal government to bring fiber optic internet to certain rural areas that they service and my area is one of the areas included in his coverage. He is saying they have a 6 year plan to do it and it will be based on a financial plan/map. Meaning they will do the areas first that provide the greatest financial returns. I live off of a hwy that is connected to another hwy that has a higher population. I feel like my area won’t be serviced for a while. It could easily be closer to the 6 year mark than it could be to the 1 year mark. I currently pay 105 for the 12gb download speeds. I am taking a shot at doing the Starlink, as I have read some pretty positive reviews. I hope I don’t regret getting it. Thoughts?

I preordered it as well. A lot of folks on the beta say it is great and Elon tweeted that speeds will double and latency will drop by the end of the year. There's no contract so I definitely think it's worth trying.

Just did a speed test on my phone, connected to the internet, and I am getting 1.3 download and 3.4 upload speeds. I pay for 12mb but rarely get it on a single device.

Sounds like you won’t regret a thing

You may have some brief outage periods at first but sounds like they will have gaps filled pretty quickly.

What could you possibly regret? For the same monthly rate you're going to get 10-100x better speeds. You are going to be absolutely floored.

My biggest hesitation is the way it mounts to the roof and being a big eye sore. I am not interested in the original mount and I am not sure how I plan to mount it to my home. I am considering placing it on top of a pole that is strapped to my soffits or using the ridge mount.

I plan on mounting it to the fascia using a j mount. Similar to how satellite tv dishes are mounted.

If we don’t preorder is there a chance we will have a long wait? I mentioned in a thread yesterday I’m looking at moving. I’d love to get on the list but obviously I don’t have an address yet. I know it will likely be somewhere that struggles with internet though.

Same boat as myself with the same question. Received the sign up email yesterday but still haven't completed my build...Later this year for completion
