How well do the older MacBook Airs hold up? (Looking to buy a 2011-2014)
Do they still perform well?
Looking to get an older MacBook Air 11” for portability. Wondering what’s the best year to go for.

I have the Mid-2012 13" Air. I use it all the time. Key is max out the memory. That's the first bottleneck that people notice. I use it daily and can usually get 6-7 hours out of it with browsing, note taking, etc before I need to plug in. One thing about any mac is the RAM makes a huge difference, so try for 8 gigs for those years.

My mom has a 2008 iMac that I had to use the other day. The experience was click, wait, program opens, click, wait, website loads, etc. I spent $70 to max the RAM from 2 to 8 and it flies now.

I have a 2013 model Air and it still runs like it’s brand new. Battery still kicks ass.

The 12” MacBook is much nicer.

My wife (sorry no photos) has a 2013 13" MacBook Air 4/128. It still performs like it did on day one. She gets hours of use from the battery. Each O/S upgrade seems to use less SSD space.

If your computer use is all or mostly browser based you should consider an 11" Chromebook. You should be able to pick a new one up for $150 - $200.

I absolutely love macs
I am considering buying a used or refurbished air that is a few years old to avoid spending another $1,000.00

So 8gb of ram should be enough for it to stay working efficiently for a long time?

It isn’t possible to switch the ram in those correct?

I may want to consider this in my MacBook. I'm starting to use a little more for work and Excel/Outlook can drag quite a bit.

I upgraded the ram in my MacBook Pro to 16gb of ram
Got it online for cheap and followed YouTube vid
It’s a 2011 and still works lightning fast.

I used a 2011 MacBook Air 13" until just a few months ago. It held up really well, but I did replace the battery in it about a year and a half ago to get a longer charge.

I recommend one of these storage expansion cards that fits flush with the card slot. You won't even notice it is there.

Mine only had 4GB of RAM, so I used an app called Memory Clean often, and that worked well.

Exact same. Bought a battery on Amazon - Anker I think? - and it ran like new.

Like an idiot I bought a brand new MacBook Pro earlier this year expecting it to run circles around the old machine. Sadly it doesn't. I hardly notice a difference in real-world performance. And my God those USB-C ports are annoying.

Had a 2011 the battery got really bad on and got pretty slow. Gave it to my wife and got a MacBook.
