I know it is not nearly as expensive as a new phone so wondering if it really helps ? Even if my battery health is not 80% yet but kinda close.

Also will Best Buy and Apple Store replace a old battery if it is not 80% yet if you ask them to and pay for it ?

Not sure but it does break the seal and negates the water resistance.

I didn’t notice any difference in performance but the one time I had a batter replaced it was like I had a new phone.

I was to the point where it pretty much had to be plugged in all day. After replacement I could go a whole day moderate to heavy use without charging.

I have a 4 year old iphone X. Replaced battery for $75 at a local place that is an authorized Apple repair shop. Took less than 2 hours after dropoff, and it has worked well since.

My original battery was still doing fair, but I had some travel coming up that would mean lots of time using maps, rideshare apps, airline app, etc. with reduced ability to charge during the day. It was worth it for the improved performance and peace of mind.

Well here is my take. Cell phones for some people are no longer a luxury and have crossed over to a necessity. For instance, if you work from home this holds true. Now with that being said your phone needs to work. And when it does not work it needs to be fixed, without question and fast. So the $10 a month for apple care is worth it. Just after your two year cycle is up if the phone is not cracked already (of which is highly possible) drop it. Front and back. Go to apple store and get a new phone for $100 (with new battery). Then drop Apple care when you trade up and pass the old one to a family member. Put Apple care on the new phone. Rinse and repeat. :-)
