I need a 1/4 rack for a NAS, a switch, and a firewall. It will require 1gig Internet access. Location should be in a large city 500 or so miles from New Orleans such as Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, or Chicago. Does anyone know how much that will cost or have any recommendations? Thanks.

Realizing I’m not answering your question, but why not consider Azure and eliminate the capital expense for the physical hardware and support contracts for the NAS, switches, and firewall? Azure can also provide your circuit with multiple VPNs (I think up to 20 are baked into the 1 gig bandwidth price). Significant uptime and data is replicated in real time.

Just a thought about converting all of that that to 100% OpEx

Rent on a 1/4 rack is about $500/mo, ISP for business class 1 gig symmetrical is ~$1k/month

I was going to suggest Azure well as most people are migrating away from data center and to the cloud. I'm in the process of doing this now. But if you insist on a datacenter Dartpoints bought the venyu datacenter in Baton Rouge and they have locations in the areas you're interested in.

We already deployed some of our on-prem environment to Azure and will continue to add more over time where it fits. Unfortunately, we have a legacy system that requires specific hardware so colocation is the only reasonable solution. Thanks for your responses.

I think that might be the old trend. Colo business is booming right now. Even hyperscalers are using colo facilities. I'm not sure what is driving so many away from cloud services but it is definitely happening.

Look at Green Cloud as well. They were offered to me a few years ago before we started moving physical systems out of the colo and into the cloud.

Been many years since looking into them, but does Rackspaxe still provide similar services?

You can provision a virtual HSM (yes, the dichotomy of that irks me), so how sure is your company really that the hardware can't be virtualized? It might cost more than the colo will cost you to do it, but it's probably possible.

Yes Rackspace still does collocation as do many other data centers.

Costs, most likely. First, the proficient devs want 200k+/yr and second, high transaction apps are expensive to run
