I think you overestimate how many people actually do this. It's kind of like how many people root phones. Even people who have it still have other means of TV.
I don't know. I mean, you're probably right in the grand scheme of things.

But I've been using Kodi for probably 4+ years now, and it's impressive how much it's grown since then. Even my technology handicapped in laws found it and figured out how to use it.

I get what you are saying. My question was just something I've often wondered.

As if on queue.... from my Facebook feed:

Any tech savvy friends know how to get this firestick to work?!? About to throw it away!

then:
It never wants to work! It's jailbroken and I can never play anything! And if it does play it always skips or freezes

then:
Just Kodi and installed and reinstalled and still issues. Got so aggravated that I rented the movie lol

I love Kodi and use it often. But I also have cable tv, Netflix and prime.

I mostly use Kodi to watch what I already pay for, but I watch when I want to watch. I will use Kodi to watch on Saturday what aired on Wednesday or maybe what aired a few years ago.

Not really. Majority of people I know do not use KODI as their primary source of tv.. only a supplement to what they already have

That's exactly where I fall. I pay for Prime mainly for shipping times. The media selection and free Kindle book per month are just a bonus. Would I pay a little more (like $125/year instead of $100) for access to streaming, yes. Because that is still a good value. I also pay for Netflix so my kids have cartoons to watch. It is hard enough to get my wife to know how to work the Firestick, if I dropped all subs and went Kodi only, she would never get anything running for the kids to watch. The only things I use Kodi for is to binge shows that are not on any of the paid services. Like catching up on current season of Walking Dead.

And like most people, I do have a family members log in for some things. Some don't like that, but my dad shared his xfinity log in and I watch maybe a dozen CFB games each year on there, and my kids stream Disney and Disney Jr. If that option ever went away, I would sign back up for basic cable.

I love the kodi knights that come out of the woodwork for this. Any way you slice it, using a kodi channel to watch programming that you would otherwise have to pay for is not legal and to say otherwise is ignorant. Like i said though, I'm not judging that. I'm just asking how long until there's a crackdown for these illegal streaming services.

You'd be willing to pay $2 per month to stream new movies. That's really unrealistic. I think you have to look at where the movie industry thinks the price should be, $5 for a DVD quality rental stream vs. where most consumers willing to pay for movie rental are. $1.50 for a BluRay at RedBox or $10 for 1 disc at a time using NetFlix BluRay by mail. To match the NetFlix/RedBox pricing you're looking at $9-$10 per month for 6-8 HD streams. If you can get there I think the movie industry will have met most consumers where they want to be.

Well, if they try to crack down on it without offering a reasonable alternative product, the "scene" will just push back harder. The music industry finally came around and learned this lesson. Hopefully the movie industry has learned from their mistakes. I doubt it, though.

You say that like illegal downloading and streaming is some new phenomenon.

The answer is never, as long as there is the internet there will be a way to stream or download media without paying.

I went to YouTube and watched copyright material today (old wcw match). When are they going to crack down on YouTube?

No, I said I would be willing to pay more to keep that feature. And I rarely stream new movies. It is all older cartoon stuff that the kids watch on Prime.

No, I'm saying the ease of which you can stream things illegally via kodi apps/channels on fire devices will get cracked down. When a middle aged/older person can figure out how to do it, it's too easy and will get stopped at some point.

Kodi itself doesn't do anything illegal and I believe all of the add-ons and streaming sites that Kodi users choose to take advantage of are in foreign countries that have a history of turning a blind eye to these things.

The Music Industry didn't stop Napster with law enforcement, although they wanted to. They stopped Napster by making a deal with Apple to give their customers what they wanted. Digital downloads at the $.99 price point.

All Hollywood needs to do to marginalize Kodi is accept the fact that they need to create the digital equivalent of RedBox/NetFlix DVD.

Kodi is legal, the apps inside kodi are legal. On the other hand people who steal the streams to torrent are illegal. The apps inside kodi are organizers of the streams you can find on the internet. If you watch a stream it's legal, if you download a stream it's illegal.

Nah, there's no difference between streaming and downloading. It's the sharers/uploaders that they try to stop.

no, because it's stupid and not true. it just makes people that stream illegally feel better. that's like saying if you borrow a stolen good, you're not doing anything wrong because you didn't steal it.
