Anyone have experience with these two brands and have a preference or recommendation?
Looking for a quality 55” TV and trying to keep it under $1000. It will primarily be used for watching movies and shows. No gaming
Rtings favors the Hisense but looking for some other input.

Been having a 55" Hisense 4k in my outdoor bar near the water for over 3 years now. No regrets and it was only $300. It lives in some harsh elements as the air has a little salt it in here and the humidity is high as well.
Nice picture and has some decent built in apps

Digital Trends review picks TCL
It's a tough call. Pretty good in depth review comparing them.

You should read this before selecting products made by companies owned by the Chinese government: Hisense and TCL Owned by Chinese Government.

Went to Bestbuy to see each of these in person yesterday
Unfortunately they only had the H8G in stock from Hisense
But my big takeaway was the TCL - 5 and 6 series - looked really washed out.. maybe they weren't calibrated or something
At the price point, I honestly thought the Vizio M series looked better than both

They're never calibrated in store, especially cheap ones. TCL has a better picture with accurate colors.

Never judge a tv by how it looks in a store

Normally I would agree but the TCLs seemed to have the same issue across all models -- BUT, I wouldn't put it past Best Buy to leave the TCL and Hisense uncalibrated while dialing in the TVs with their own "section" (Vizio)

I have a TCL4 on my back porch and a TCL6 in our bedroom. Completely satisfied with both.

Have a TCL 5 series in bedroom that I do really like..
The living room is what I'm upgrading to pair with PS5..
I was dead set on TCL 5 or 6 series, but neither have HDMI 2.1, and I'm seeing several people say that's almost a must for full PS5 experience
Hisense H9G looks and sounds awesome, but the QA issues on the panel for the H8G have me kinda spooked there too

both the 5 and 6 series 2020 TCL's have HDMI 2.1 unless i'm missing something..

Do they? I was going off of rtings review of the 2020 5 series and it says "HDMI 2.1: No"

The ones in the store will never be calibrated. They're always in torch mode.

It's usually not a good business model to try to actively dissuade people from buying products you have taking up space in your store.

Why do people do this? He very clearly says in his OP he's trying to keep it under $1,000.

quote:i take it back; it seems like all the articles i read about this were 'pre release' where tcl claimed that would be supported but now its more fuzzy and it seems that maybe this was a software update but now i'm seeing they have hdmi 2.0b only so i don't know. i guess this limits gaming to 1440k/120hz instead of 2160/120 and i dont know what else.
