Help me find the right AV receiver

I don’t need anything more than 5.1 I don’t think. Want a reliable brand (denon, Yamaha, etc), but don’t want to spend much more than $500. I’m no extreme audiophile.
Current pioneer unit is crap, was a gift a long time ago and I need upgrade.
I have:
- TV
- record player
- 2 nice speakers and a sub woofer that will be hardwired.
- want to add Bluetooth speakers with “zones”. My wife wants it to reach our bedroom but I don’t want to wire that crap across the house. Quality does not matter in these.

Best Buy has Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo and JBL (?) have 5.x or 7.x offerings in your price range. If you get 7.x you can usually use the unused channels as zone 2 or zone 3 amps. I'm not sure if they have Bluetooth...

Yamaha always seems to have good bang for the buck. Electronics and instruments.

I bought a Sony STR-AN1000 in Jan 2024 for $699. I just looked, and it's $1049 now. Ouch. Anyway, I love this for my 5.1 setup. It has a very easy setup using a microphone to set all the levels. It was a big step up from an expensive 10 year old Pioneer that went belly up. You may be able to find a used one for a better deal.

This has great options if you don't mind factory refurbs. The S760 is more than you need but a steal at $399.

Potentially open to that! Curious if you or anyone else here has experience with Denon factory refurbs? I can do some Reddit searching...

I have. A 970 receiver and 550 sound bar. Absolutely no issues with either one. Not sure if they were blemished items or returns but both came in plain factory packaging.

Just bought this!
Reviews of their refurbs were outstanding online and I can return and it gets a factory warranty on it.

Good find. That’s a good deal.
