I have been in the SEO business for at least 20 years now and everyday that passes by is another day Google launches some stupid new thing to their SEO standards.

I am working on a site where they have about 25 cities they service so I created a city specific page for each of their service areas. Each city page is very unique with zero duplication. Yet, google will only index one.

So instead of people searching for the following (for example)

_____ home service in City A

they are getting results for ______ home service in City D

If Google would just index my fricking City A page then it would be targeted more for people searching for the home service business in City A

Not sure if I am making sense but these new google updates are making it incredibly difficult to create a website that targets people depending on their locations

They've all gotten retarded. They're worse at parsing than they were in the 90s. Like you're guaranteed to just get a first page of basic wiki and Amazon links for whatever the first word in your query. It's absurd. They have intentionally broken themselves. You cant find anything specific anymore.

Also the whole backlinking bullshite. My niche is a home service business.. like what the frick other websites are doing to write an article/post a link to my website in their high Donain Authority website? It’s a fricking home service business, not some cool Spotify type business.

So now what do I do? I gotta go buy links to help get my new domain authority up in order to start ranking

It’s just total bullshite

What’s really annoying is that I think the purposely have made it like this no matter how good your on page SEO is because they want you to have to buy google ads in order to get found on google

This is the way. I recall one furniture CEO that said his most effective AdWords were entirely misspellings of the company name (resturationhardware, restirationhardware, etc.)

I feel for businesses, paying for this kind of garbage is just useless overhead. I wish users could also be aware what the + sign in a search string does... Roofing +"Lafayette" Half of social media questions posted would disappear in a week.

As a hobby, I built up a local service biz to 100k hits per month. I got hit by the latest algo update and have been too busy in my real job to mess with it.

You can get INSANE links in home service and crush the locals.

My #1 tip is HARO.

Happy to chat more on email if you want. I love SEO.

No. It’s just a hobby for me and as mentioned I don’t even have time for my own website right now.

We’re going through SEO update as a network security reseller. We have to make a page for every stupid thing we want to hit on and it’s driving me nuts.

We sell a very high end ransomware prevention product and if we want to get Google hits we have to have a page for the product, for breach prevention, for ransomware, and then a page for MDR,XDR, and EDR.

All that to say, I hear you and get it. It’s tiresome.

Well my niche is a home service type business where the name of the product/service is pretty standard across the board.

Page about product/service Installation A
“ B
“ C

I can’t really change the name or description of these services but since I am promoting them on the webpages, it is saying I duplicating pages so they aren’t getting indexed

Like for example: if I am a carpet cleaning service.. I can’t really call it something else that would make sense. So by me printing carpet cleaning, I am getting penalized for “duplication”

This new SEO update is total bullshite. They want SEO to be dead for home service business so that we have to buy google ads to be found

Then I will use SEO tools to test out pages

sEMrush says my pages are perfect but then MOZ will say I have shite tons of errors, issues, etc then Yoast will show that my on page SEO is perfect but another SEO software will say that all of my pages are fricked up and etc etc etc

On the brand side, it is frustrating for sure. Everyone is just bidding up keywords, burying actual brands at times. We have retailers and knockoffs all vying for eyes and driving each other's costs up in the process.

Some of the tactics last season were as high as $4/click, and the conversion wasn't any better. Something has to get fixed.

The SEO company I use is asking to use google ads on top of the SEO work that they already do.

They are looking at a management fee for themselves and the ad spend on top of the management fee.

The total monthly bill will double. Can I significantly downshift my SEO and move my budget to google ads to not double my bill?

The SEO firm acts like we will lose progress if we reduce the SEO budget.

Thoughts/comments??? TIA

A lot of these companies take way too much money for the value they provide. You could lose progress, you might not. It really depends on your niche and how competitive it is.

What is the SEO company doing?

1) targeted display which I think is our geofencing; &
2) SEO - I dont know nuts and bolts of this but it is how high we are to the top of certain keyword searches in the browser

How much are you paying them per month?

You need to find out exactly what they are doing for SEO. Only two things matter (95%) posts targeting keywords and links.

Anything else is just trying to make you believe they have some sort of magic.

Man, shooting you straight, I built sites back in 2011-12 that are still ranking.

Have you seen the new google bard bs?

Can’t tell you how shocked I am Seo is a topic on TD.

For local, you can use duplicate content as long as the city is switched out. Like no shite, I helped build a locksmith business with nothing but Seo. I used 4 articles to build 30k service+city pages. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But it be true.

Used the same strategy in a different industry, built the thing up, client sold his business. The buyers were asking where he got traffic/leads. He pointed them to the site I built, and told them to just search a service kw+any town within 50mi radius.

We were everywhere.

Been running tests after the new algo update, so far we can index and rank within a week on “long tails”. On general stuff the initial push gets to page 2 in Houston.

It’s hard to answer your budget question without more info. How long have they been working on it for you?

Would love to run some tests in your service area. Been doing this stuff since 2005. The algo updates are mostly bullshite if you follow the fundamentals. I haven’t changed Seo strategies since 2008, the shite still works.

Lots of folks are intimidated by Seo. Especially the youngsters

Glad I clicked into this board.

Back to the new google bard - take every precaution you can to hide your identity if you play with it. They’re tracking, storing, and identifying info from anyone who uses it.

This be the troof. SEO is about to be shaken to its core over the next year, or even sooner.

If any of you have the ability to optimize GMB and get reviews from past customers, do it asap.

SEO is about to get interesting.

Schema - check out rankmath plug-in if you’re using Wordpress. If html or other, you’ll have to manually code it in for each city page.
