Ironically, that's the reason a lot of people stay with Apple. (Sans the gay wallpapers.)
Honestly, I don't want excitement from a smartphone. I want it to work when I use it. I don't care if it can side-load some obscure app. I use a handful of apps and they need to work. That's it. All this other stuff like AI picture suggestions and whatnot is completely irrelevant to me. I guess if you're really into using beta software and feeling like you're using an underdog product, then please, by all means, buy experimental devices.

Pixel starting to do that. Google is rolling out features such as RCS but allowing them for only their apps. The customization is slowly disappearing

I hate all cellphone manufacturers. They all try to maximize data mining that they sell to any bidder. Google, Samsung, Apple doesn't matter. And if you remove permissions they simply don't work.
The default position should be they get nothing and you opt in only. Paying $1000+ you don't really control or own is criminal. I'm a small government guy but there's some things that government needs to fix. This is one of them. It's a privacy issue.

That's what I liked about Blackberry. It had true granular permissions.
Its DTEK app would tell me which apps were trying to ping my location and yes, I could turn all that off.

Are we talking about the same government that runs programs like PRISM and XKeyscore?
Back on subject, I'm thinking about switching back to pixel from the galaxy S. The 10 looks intriguing. I'll give it a couple months and let Google work out their normal kinks and revisit the decision.

My 2 lasted for 3.5 years as did my 5. I'm over a year with the 8 Pro now and love it (don't miss the no-rear-fingerprint feature as much as I had feared).
I have never had any trouble with batteries or anything else. I only switch when it gets so long in the tooth that I'm afraid it just can't last any longer and I don't want to be surprised with a fail while on the road or something.
I bought the 10 XL/Pro 1TB + all the accessories. However, as per usual, I probably won't open it for over a year.
