If anyone is thinking of getting one of these, don't. Terrible support and an hour and half of my life that I'll never get back spent on chat.

Sorry to hear that. Mine work fine.

ETA-What seems to be the problem outside of your issue with customer support?

I love the way they work. My gen 1 expired in November and I bought a new one to replace it. The newest ones have a 10 year life span and the one I bought was manufactured in December 2018 meaning it has already used 20% of it's life in the box. The runaround with support was me asking what kind of manufacture date I'd get if I purchased directly from google and why I didn't get the email offer of replacing and expiring unit for a discount. It's like they had no clue what I was talking about. I'm in the Ring/Alexa ecosystem anyway so I'll just replace my other 2 nest protects with Amazon compatible ones as they expire.

I've never had any problem with the performance. I like that it triggers my camera when an alert happens.

Let me know when you find 2 year old milk and meat.

You can read the serial number on the box to figure out the manufacture date.

I can’t recommend any nest products. Google has a bad habit of randomly dropping support for them. The fact that they never integrated it with the security system they just discontinued would make me even more leery.

I have the nest thermostats and like them but google makes me nervous.

ETA - I just made the switch to ring and definitely don’t have any regrets yet.

I made the choice to go in on Ring because Nest didn't have a battery powered doorbell camera. Was glad I did that as I was able to use the security system base as a hub when Wink looked like they were on their way out.

Well, Gen 1s only had a 7 year life, 10 is an improvement. All CO detectors have a set lifespan, this isn't Google's fault.

When I shopped for my 2 Nest Protects I physically went to a half dozen stores and searched through all of their available product. I ended up with 2 devices that were only a couple of months old. There were some pretty old devices sitting on the shelf at some stores ... I'd never buy one on-line site unseen.
