Been looking at the cube

Bought 4 - 4k sticks for directtv now. Don't need an Alexa to change my channel for me with that cube.

I heard the cube was not as good as the second gen.
Can anyone confirm?
Heard they reduced specs to get cost down.

I just did some research on the stick vs the tv. I’m looking to replace my old stick. I have a 1st gen tv that still works great and I’m completely happy with it, but the stick is terribly slow.
Apparently they’re discontinuing the tv for the new 4K stick. The specs on the new 4K stick are slightly reduced ram but a faster processor. A couple of YouTube side by side videos of the 3rd gen tv and the new 4K stick show that the stick boots faster and performs equally as fast or faster than the tv. That’s really surprising to me, but I’m happy to hear it as it’s only $40 right now.
I didn’t look into the cube. Doesn’t sound like something I want. But I’m definitely replacing my old stick with the new 4K stick.

I had 2 2nd gen TV's and went with a Cube and 4K stick to replace. I haven't seen any noticeable performance difference between the new and the old. Both are pretty zippy. I had a TV/Echo setup in the living room that we used occasionally so the Cube replaced that. 4K stick went in the bedroom.
The 4K stick blows the old stick out of the water. It's not even close.
I'm most excited about the new remotes. Power and volume control for all components. The only thing missing now is the ability to switch inputs from the remote. My 2nd gens were working fine and I would have bought the new remotes but per the site the new remote is not compatible with 2nd gen.

This whole situation is a shame. I'm a happy PSVue subscriber but would love to try out YoutubeTV because I hear great things. Until then I'll stick with what works.

I have a first and 2nd gen fire tv. Will be replacing the 1st gen when football starts. Just got you tube tv in my area so I’ll be upgrading to whatever is Rokus high end box. Too bad google and amazon can’t work past their issues because I have enjoyed my fire TVs.

Is there a stick that isn’t 4K? I have the first one in my living room and one I bought last year in the bedroom. Looking to replace the one in the living room and wire it to Ethernet. It’s an older tv so no need for 4K.

2nd gen was definitely better than 3rd gen other than HDR support.
The cube is mostly an upgrade over 2nd gen. The only caveat is the cube requires an external ethernet adapter for hardwire connection.

It is a bit overdone. The amazon devices have a youtube link that launches in firefox just like a dedicated youtube app. you literally can't tell it is firefox when you launch it. It has full youtube app functionality from what I have used of it.
I think anyone avoiding amazon due to the youtube app is just looking for a reason to avoid it.

Does it have to be amazon/fire?

Yeah I would like to stick with amazon. I have prime and the interface is what my wife and kids know. Just curious if they still make a normal HD stick. Could also go with a box, I’ll have some room to install it

Yes. There is still a non 4k stick but it is the same price. Might as well get the 4k stick.

its pretty damn good
esp with HDR
speed wise are the same, my gen 2 when hardlined got awful speeds. Both get 100+ over wifi.

I hear the cube is incredibly slow in loading up. Hard to justify $80 for that.
