I'm kind of disappointed in the picture quality of the fire tv.
Of course I wasn't expecting it to look like my PS4 or XBONE. It says its capable for 4k but 4k Netflix looks like arse compared to the Netflix app on my tv. HBO GO looks pretty good compared to everything else.

Does your TV have HDR? If so that's why. The Fire can't do HDR

but yea I have no idea why I'm getting slower speeds with cat6 than wifi.

I would check the firmware on the device that has the Ethernet support. When this happens on PC it usually means the driver is out of date.

WiFi works great for me, although I have not compared to hard wire hookup. Is there much of a difference for others? Also, what's the name of the speed test app for the fire tv?

Actually here is the reason...Did some research for you:
Kindle fire uses 802.11n which has a max throughput of 300 mb/s which is very fast for wireless first of all...
The Ethernet on fire tv has known issues. Found numerous threads including LINK

I just searched speed test and downloaded the only one that showed up.

The FireTV Ethernet port is only 10/100. So 30 is pretty decent over the wire. It really doesn't matter though.
4k streams are max 25mbit

Just about to say that. It's the ports max speed is the issue.
