Facebook and Messenger apps drain Android battery (iPhone too?)

The apps do not show up as heavy users in your battery stats, but they constantly do shite in the background that drains your battery. They claim to be working on fixing this, but it's been years now and I haven't seen much improvement.
If your phone doesn't last through the day, uninstall both the main Facebook app and the Messenger app for a couple days and see how it does. Pretty much guaranteed you'll get at least 3-4 more hours out of it. I get about 6 more hours out of my Pixel 2.
If you just absolutely cannot survive without Facebook, you can use the website in your browser, or there are several lightweight alternative apps that basically just wrap the mobile site and give you message notifications.

If I could send videos over sms, I would delete messenger.

Do you not use the Google photo app to send videos?

I didn't know about it. I will check it out. Thank you.

When you install the Facebook app you grant it permission to run constantly and access your entire browser history and all of your messages in any apps on your phone and send all of that information to Facebook.
Delete all of those apps off your phone and then delete Facebook. If you must use Facebook then go through your browser. The app is a literal data collection virus you allow on your phone.

I have an app that mirrors my work desk phone to my cell. It's super functional for work but it absolutely destroys my battery life.
Maybe dropping FB would help extend it again. Though I use messenger a lot to send videos of my kid to my wife and family

It sounds like the best solution for some of you would be to get an iPhone so the video problem goes away
How is there not an Android iOS emulator yet?

I've honestly been considering it even though I've always been on Android

Use what's app or Google Photos

I have no real issue with FB messenger other than the fact that I shouldn't have to use a separate app to send stuff
In fact it's much more reasonable than those because most everyone has FB messenger so I don't have to have my grandparents, for example, to download WhatsApp or show them how to use Google Photos.

If you are on Android, install the "Metal for Facebook and Twitter" app. It was specifically created to conserve battery and it has messenger built in.
