I'm in the same boat. I have a total of 4 on 2 tapts that I could swap for the GE bulbs but so far I am doing fine with the $3 bulbs in them and haven't cared about dimming. I guess if one burns out I might as well switch to these because I was going to put in led regardless.

Btw, I'm getting my dot in Tuesday or Wednesday.

Got it in. Fantastic device. I like being able to use the alarm. Com skill to arm by voice. This then triggers my other virtual switches to turn off TV and set lighting when it is time for bed.

i still need to swap out my v1 hue hub for a v2. maybe today. that would make it worth it to be able to set the colors on the lights.

The Amazon Tap is on clearance at Home Depot for $33.03. It supposedly can function as an always listening device(instead of having to press button), so in theory it should be better than the dot (battery and better speaker)

I'm not sure what you're saying but my dot is up on a bookshelf and always responds when I say Alexa.
Using it and home assistant together. Home definitely has the advantage when it comes to hue. You can actually tell the lights what color to change to.
Also dot has no battery. You pull out the USB and it dies.

Tap is portable. You used to have to physically press a button to wake it up. He's saying now you don't and it's still portable.

I have no idea how long the battery lasts or really anything about tap but the idea of a portable voice activated unit is pretty intriguing.

I was very disappointed when the dot came with a USB cable and DC plug but it didn't have a battery.
wtf. Why not just include an all-in-one charger with USB connector?

Found this in an updated cnet article about battery life:
The only downside to this new feature is its effect on the Tap's battery life. Without the hands-free mode activated, the Tap streamed a local radio station for an average of 10 hours and 8 minutes over the course of two tests. We played the station at 50 percent volume. With the microphone always on, the battery ran for an average of 8 hours and 40 minutes. That's about 15 percent less, but consistent with Amazon's estimates and a fine tradeoff for the extra usefulness.

Where you seeing this deal? In store? Which one?

In store only. Think it is pretty widespread across country. Found mine at Highland store in BR. This morning, stock showed 4. They only found 2.
