Never got this. What can I expect?
2 more years in a contract? A free phone? An all inclusive night at the bunny ranch?

Do you currently like your phone and the price you pay per month? If so, don't do it.
If you have to have the latest phone, then maybe. But expect to pay 20-35$ more a month as you pay your new phone off in monthly increments now.

Ok thanks frick that then. I will just purchase my own phone for a whole lot cheaper and keep my current plan.

If you purchase a used phone you can save money, but if you want a new phone at retail price, you just as soon go with the next plan as its really a free loan.
I switched to att from Verizon 2 weeks ago for the new unlimited plan and I hate it.
At my office and my camp Verizon was miles better than att.

I just upgrade last month. I got a note 5 and a Galaxy S6 for my wife for $100 to basically renew my 2 year contract.
You have to talk to the retention dept, get the best offer you can from them to renew, threaten to walk if you have to. They will make you a good offer to stay, if you want to stay.

frick the next plan. That is straight bullshite. You pay sooooo much more. Let's face it, you're gonna use the same cell provider for next two years
Do the upgrade ($300 for iPhone 6s+) and do the 2 year contract.

I've been eligble for an upgrade from Verizon for 5 years now. But I have an unlimited data plan, and if I upgrade, they'll take it and I'll have to take a tiered plan. So I've bought my last couple phones on Amazon. Is there any better option out there than Amazon to get a better phone?

Where are you getting an option for a discounted phone on ATT?
When I check ATT the only options are to buy the phone at full price or pay it off on the Next plan.

Did they not teach math at Ole Miss?
For the OP, what you need to do is look at your detailed billing and find out what you are paying for the line each month. There should be either a $15 or $40 monthly fee for each smart phone.
If you are paying $15, you were grandfathered in. Your options are to buy from a 3rd party, upgrade with 2 year contract (if they still offer that), or upgrade through ATT Next.
With either the 3rd party or ATT Next, this monthly fee will remain at $15. If you go with a 2 year contract, this will increase to the new $40 fee.
Therefore, even if you save on the phone with the 2 year contract, you pay just about the same, if not more, through the $25/month fee increase.
The cheapest option is to buy a new or like new phone from a 3rd party (Amazon, ebay, slickdeals) and bring it to the ATT store. You can probably just swap your sim card and go, actually.
