Don't forget to negotiate your cable and internet bills

I have my shite on auto-pay, but just happened to look at it yesterday, and saw that my DirecTV bill was $201 for the Ultimate package and Cox had me paying $118 for 150Mbps + phone bundle. Spent an hour negotiating, and I got the DirecTV package upgraded to Premier for $138 + tax, and get a free install on an updated dish on a 1-year contract. Got Cox to drop my bill to $84/mo while keeping the same package. Probably could've gone lower, but they called my bluff last time and I had to cancel for a day.
Total savings of $1152 per year and an hour's worth of my time.
Don't get complacent

I need to do that with Cox. Did you just threaten to cancel or told them it was too much and hoped they would offer a lower price?

I think about doing that for my Cox internet, but I'm paying $99 a month for 300mbps, and all I can threaten is to go with u-verse to get 1/16th the speed for $40 cheaper.
But for U-verse TV, I can threaten them with PS Vue.

I live about 1/2 mile from New Orleans, and told them AT&T was in the process of putting fiber in my hood, and I could get a 300Mbps package for $70/mo. I'm pretty sure he looked it up while I was on the phone, but AT&T doesn't even offer U-verse here.
I just told him he needed to match the price, or it wouldn't make sense for me to keep Cox. He knew I was talking out of my arse, so he just gave me somewhat of a discount. Also told me to call and renegotiate once another provider comes to my area.
DirecTV was much easier to deal with because I wasn't under contract and I could've easily switched to Cox. They initially said $178 with a 6-month contract, but after I got transferred to customer retention, it went to $138 with a 1-year and all fees included

I have U-Verse internet only and they are the only provider in my hood. I tried to get a discount (have the highest DL speeds they offer here at 45 Mbps), they told me to get fricked. Sucks to only have one option. They also force me to have that shitty gateway and pay for it monthly instead of being able to buy my own.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you're still getting raped paying nearly $230/month for Internet and cable.

Why do you have both Cox and Direct TV?

bragging about paying $230 in cable and internet bills

I have a reminder on my calendar every 6 months.
Dish will give me a low price for 6 months. If I don't call in they go up.
I figure next time I am going to have to take one of those teaser deals.
It is so stupid for those companies to have all those teasers out there.

For AT&T, typically how long is the interval between installation of the Gigapower fiber in a neighborhood and availability of service?

DirecTV is better for TV and Cox is better for internet. Didn't even know until today that Cox is the only ISP here

I wish I could do this with Cox but unfortunately there's just no other options. I'm now paying $52.99 for 15 Mbps stand alone internet. Which is "discounted" $10 from the "regular" price which has ballooned to $62.99.
Three years ago I was paying under $40 for 50 Mbps..

I have to do this annually with Time Warner. After I get the new price, I ask when it expires. I then set that date on my calendar to make sure that I call again to negotiate before the deal expires.

All you have to say is that the new price is too expensive and that you are moving to a competitor. They will bring you back to the promotional price to keep their churn rate low

i live in an area where bright house was my only option. now, i'm having to switch to spectrum because they recently bought bright house and i can either pay $58 for 20 Mbs or $65 for 60 Mbs. i could've gotten internet, tv and phone for $90 with no contract but decided against it.

By "cut the cord" I think he meant to drop cable tv but not Internet.
