I think all the Apple threads are starting to get to some. It's a bit much and I even like them.

It's not just a forum, it's a news aggregation site. Probably the single biggest value provided by TD is you can get every piece of relevant news without having to scour every news site or blog on the Internet. There's also enough differing opinion to help you see through bias and spin.

I'm assuming he has iPhone fatigue, which is understandable if you have no interest in the iPhone. And I do think the Tech Board has fallen short of its potential and we focus way too much on phones and TV boxes. But I'm not sure that can be helped. If you talk about any tech topic that's too specialized it will be a very short thread. Mass consumer electronics is an area that's fairly easy for anyone to have an opinion on.

Winner!

I was taking my daughter to school this morning, glanced at the board, and thought it should be renamed for what it is: The Which TV Should I Buy and Mobile Phone Forum.

While I agree that there is a disproportionate amount of phone and TV talk here, people are going to discuss the tech that they most frequently use. For nearly everyone it's a phone or a TV. Nothing to get in a twist about.

I think it'll evolve. But posters like him aren't going to help it do that. All he's doing is reinforcing the stigma that has already taken shape thanks to turning even decent/relevant threads into this vs. that or "why don't you google it?!?". Honestly, 90% of the topics on all of TD's non-sports boards could be "googled". It doesn't make them pointless or worthless.

The only person that's keeping you from elevating the discussion is yourself.
