Dish just cut $30 off my bill for 10 months and gave me free movie channels for a few months just bc I told them I had an offer for uverse.

Hopper>>>>genie>>>>uverse for equipment fwiw

bottom line is the best TV picture quality and value is satellite hands down. Uverse is pure shite and that's why they are buying DIRECTV

having worked with both DTV and DISH and tested their equipment for years. the hopper was way ahead of the first gen genie but the new genie that's out now is equal to the hopper with sling and I prefer the genie. its a true 4 room system where the hopper only has 3 tuners.

the guide and interface is much cleaner on the genie and the speed issues and hard drive have been fixed.

if all else is equal, then with dtv having the sunday ticket, mlb package, yes network, CSN, and better picture quality(compression is different)
DTV wins hands down

Parents have DTV. I have Dish.

Picture difference is negligible if even noticeable.
Guide is a little better on DTV, but that's probably b/c I have more practice on it.
Room to room features are better on Dish.

DTV has sunday ticket. Dish has redzone & is a little cheaper.
There is no hands down between these two.
But BOTH are Hands Down better than cable.

Sling and guaranteed SEC network made me go with Dish.

Directv has redzone as well

I have a slingbox hooked up to my genie

Directv will have sec within a week or 10 days from my source

I called Directv and bitched about the SEC network and told them that now that I can get Sunday Ticket without having a subscription to directv that I was looking to switch. They gave me $20 off per month and then sunday ticket for $40. Not too bad for just calling up and asking them for some help.

I've been with directv since 2006.

Probably so.

They are both virtually the same service.

I like DirecTV but I will be cancelling it as soon as possible. I can't stand the reality shows anymore. There is nothing ever on.

Dish?

Lol. The programs still show the same things. I will be cutting cable. The Genie on DirecTV is amazing and I can't complain about DirecTV itself.

The format and remote are amazing. DVR experience is great. The whole system is very well thought out.

As far as football is concerned, Redzone is all you need.

I just switched from cable.
I had the same decision.

With Dish already "for sure" having the SEC network... I decided to try dish.

I like Dish alot.
I like being able to use my Ipad/Iphone for channel surfing ... and Sling is just pure awesome.

As for the rest of it, the guide, remote, etc is fine.
I have seen several people complain about the order of channels on Direct, but I wouldn't say it's going to sway you one way or the other.
You really can't go wrong with either.

ETA: Here's a code for anyone else that needs a $50 referral discount for Dish.
VCD0011250732

Maybe someone with Direct can post a referral code.

However if you use this account number for referral you get 10 a month for 10 months and I also get it so it's a win win. #65436412
