I've never needed one but I see them recommended here a good bit.. This seems like a decent deal..I'm sure someone will correct me if it is not

I saw that but w/ an ATV4k just don't think I need it, especially since I use Directv Now.

Ipad Mini 4 128gb on sale too.

In my opinion:

1) Apple TV 4k
2) nVidia Shield
3) everything else

The Shield is only perfect if you use google home. If you have Amazon Echo's and whatnot, I don't see how the Shield is > than Apple tv 4k.
However, I have the shield and the current beta they have with the GeForce Now gaming is cool. I wish my kids were a little older and got into games a bit more.

So sure, in your instance you may want the Shield over Apple TV 4k. But you have to admit, the Shield interface is... fugly.

I agree the UI needs some updating....but a major issue I see with a ATV 4k is ..well it is an apple on a stupid closed system. So Shield>atv4k

Best tech for cutting the cord.

It separates the poors from those wanting the best experience.

Fire devices and Roku are garbage in comparison.

I dunno, I don’t use those cause I’m not a poor person. How’s your hobo life treating you?

What's wrong with 2nd gen fire TV box? It's half the price and even less when it goes on sale.

I've never had any issue with mine.

nothing, but isn't there an issue with wifi range with that box?

Also Amazon devices interfaces are prime content driven. Good if you are Prime heavy but not if you don't use Prime.

no idea. I bought it for seamless 4k and Plex so I hard wired it.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. I've downloaded maybe a dozen free kids games and as anyone who knows me.. I'm NOT a prime member.

I pick up the remote and go to the Plex app 99% of the time but the UI has never particularly bothered me.

Eta the lack of YouTube could be a negative I guess but not enough to bother sideloading it since it's already built into the TV's native apps so I just grab the TV remote instead when I want to watch YouTube.

The main interface, not the individual apps. Prime video mostly.

I'm in the minority on this board. I don't use any gray area streaming. DirectV Now is my streaming live TV and use Netflix, Hulu and the logins through DTVN apps.

It may have been true when it first came out but the capabilities have grown and pull shows from the services you have. If I search for a show or movie and it’s in a service I have setup like Netflix or Vue it will ask me which of those to watch it from. Alexa also makes it really easy to access content from these other services. If your FireTV experience is too Amazon centric you’re either doing it wrong or haven’t done it in a few years.

Amazon makes a solid device, no doubt. I do think they all now do a good job with the search. Roku as well.

I won't lie. After 4K Kodi was at the top of my list for why I wanted this 3 years ago when I bought it. Kodi and Exodus got nothing but praise on this forum and it was great initially...for about 10 minutes.

That went to shite and I realized I was better served by resurrecting my local Plex library and with the recent addition of free live TV... Well let's just say I'm watching Gor on Comet TV right now as I write this.
