Costco TV Return

My father is renovating his place and bought a 60+" tv from Costco. He kept it in the box until he was ready to hang on the wall. Over three month period. Turns out the tv has irreparable screen damage. He is past 3 month window. Any recourse?
He bought the exact same make and model from Costco. Should he put broken tv in new box to return?
*Shitty trying to cheap out on Costco... I know, just trying to help the old man out.

Costco will return anything.
Didn't some return a dead Christmas tree back to them after Christmas was over ?

if the TV was broken before he bought it I would try to return it and explain the situation

He either called or brought it to the store. They told him that it was not possible to return because it was after the three month return window. I told him he might want to stick the old broken tv in the new tv box and return it. Was wondering if they double check serial # or anything like that?

All Tv's from Costco have a 2 year warranty.
Is the damage not covered by warranty?
Or did it get damaged while sitting in box?

Not sure. He just said that when his electronics guy took the tv out of the box that it had lines up and down the screen when he turned it on. Screen damage. The tv had sat in the box the entire time before that. Not sure if it was stored upright or flat.

If he paid with a credit card he may have coverage for the damage. Contact or read the credit cards policy.

That is still under warranty. Can't return it but Costco will fix it.

Costco will take back anything. I know a guy that works there that said you wouldn't believe what all gets returned and in what shape. He's watched two guys buy a cooked chicken, go into to the parking lot and eat the chicken, and then return the bones for a full refund.
I know someone else that returned a queen size mattress after using it for seven years. Then turned around and bought another one.
