Mods, Please leave this open for a bit and then merge it to the stickie. It will help some people and a new discussion is needed.
I have work with XBMC for a long time (Camelot days). XBMC changed it's name to KODI for those who did not know that. It's a great tool, and now with apps like slingtv, Now you can really cut back..... EXCEPT FOR INTERNET.
Here are some solutions for you:
1- use your unlimited data on your cell phone.
Yes, you can do it several ways and not have internet at all. I switched a long time ago.
Option 1- Requires cell phone(android is my example) w unlimited data and a windows computer/laptop. Need a USB
- Install PDANET onto your phone and pay for it. $8
- Install PDANET onto windows.
- open PDANET on your phone. select "hide tethering" and then select "USB Tethering"
- Connect your cell phone to the computer with the USB cable. the PDANET should see the cell phone and ask you to select your option.... (just click on the pop up). Select "Connect USB"
At this point, you now turn your computer into an access point. It's called an ad hoc wireless network. Here is a link to explain the process PRIO TO WINDOWS 10.
Prior to windows 10
Here is the set up for windows 10:
Windows 10
This is the method I am using right now. With this set up, I am running KODI, Netflix, SlingTV on an android TV box. With decent LTE service, I have not had an issue.
OPTION 2- Requires an Android TV box that has an IMEI
This is not easy to find. IF you can find one, please link to this page so others can enjoy this option.
Once you purchase it, simply call your cell provider and add a line.
OPTION 3- Screen cast W/O a router.
This one is pretty easy too. Purchase something like a screen beam 2.

What does this cost you, monthly...
Posted on 7/5/18 at 2:15 pm to NotGrammarKnotsi
My cell phone is with Sprint and it's roughly 50 per month

you go through an awful lot of trouble to save another $50 per month
Posted on 7/5/18 at 3:27 pm to NotGrammarKnotsi
Not really. It takes all of 5 minutes to set it up, and my internet was not $50.
Before this, I was paying Comcast right at $200.

So use your $50 cellphone..Pay $12 to Hulu $15 to Netflix
Posted on 7/6/18 at 9:44 am to NotGrammarKnotsi
At one point I paid out:
1- $200 in cell service
2- $220 in internet and cable
3- $10 in Netflix
I have never used Hulu. Now I pay $50. The difference is $370 per month.

This isn't a cord cutting thread, its a "why do I pay so much for shite" thread...For maybe $125, someone could do everything you do with a single ATT Home setup

I'm 100% sure it is.

In broadcast television, cord-cutting refers to the pattern of viewers, referred to as cord cutters, cancelling their subscriptions to multichannel subscription television services available over cable, dropping pay television channels
That is cord cutting sir. That's exactly what I did.

Plus their cell phone bill.
Look, I get it that you have some sort of axe to grind for some reason or another, but that's really no reason to come onto a thread and be a dick. And by DICK.. I mean a small dick... like a one incher.
BTW... ATT sucks.

$65 cell phone plus $135 in TV would still do way more than you do for under $200...
You simply created a solution for a problem you didn't have...Your "cord cutting" was because you paid too much for the shite you had...

personal attacks generally mean I am correct..so..

coming from someone using Sprint..

100% wrong! But keep thinking that.
Please "God"... school me on what problems I had and didn't have. LMAO!
No... your complete agenda from your first post on was to attack the me and the thread. Let me guess.. You work at ATT?
AND PROUD OF THAT!

Please tell me what you do that I can't do with my Gb internet for $80 and free Plex...Even if you consider this me spending $30 more a month than you, I don't have to worry about being on shitty Sprint service..

You paid $200 to your ISP..That is stupid and instead of cutting out services, you panicked

You took it personally that someone had the audacity to question your genius..
quote:

no, I just pay my monthly bills and know what things cost..I'm sure you love the gadgets you bought, but cord cutting is becoming more of a hassle than just having regular services..

Sprint has the absolute worst service and caters to a crowd that doesn't care

Now you are changing topics. You stated that a $65 cell phone plus $135 in TV would still do way more than you do for under $200...
That does NOT do way more than my setup. PERIOD..
Your math is poor. You stated $65+$135. That's 200. Then you change it to 80 per month. Then you say "me spending 30 per month more" It's not. Your Phone, PLUS $80 is $145.

Oh... I PANICKED NOW!! LMAO!

I don't take things like this personally. Nice try.

Not a hassle at all. Have done this for 8 years. There is no hassle to it at all. I have never missed a game I wanted to watch and have never missed a show.

Bottom line man is that you made a mistake..I get it, and you're never going to admit it...You can't keep up with that fact that I can either pay $80 for internet and have free Plex or Kodi, and do everything you do, or pay $65 for a cell phone bill and do the same thing too..I could do $85 for internet, $15 for Directv Now, $10 for Hulu and $15 for Netflix if I wanted too and still be under $200...
Maybe you didn't panic, you just needed to cut out money from the ridiculous prices you were paying..
I stick by the fact though that you went through a lot of trouble to accomplish what is done today much easier..Cord cutting was a fad that costs more now than it did..

Bless your heart, you just can not comprehend that other bill can you.
You have internet + phone plus paid tv.
I have a phone.

No.. I didn't go through a lot of trouble at all. It took less time to set up than a cable box and a router. It does not cost me anything BUT MY PHONE BILL!

Suggesting using cell data as a primary use of internet is a terrible idea
Cell providers will throttle you after 20-25GB of usage
That’s less than a day in my house

They throttle you at 10-15GB if you are tethering. Which is what he is doing.
