Has anyone done anything to automate blinds? I'd like to rotate open and close horizontal blinds by voice through Echo. Don't need to raise or lower them.

i can tell you with 100% certainty if i ever buy blinds again i'm going with lutron serena.

yeah, they're expensive but i've spent 2+ years trying to hack another solution and probably spent more in wasted CPU cycles* than if i had just bought them to start with.

i wouldn't mess around with this particular thing.

*i call this cadmining

I'm becoming curious about this.

Really liking the interface and having one app for everything. The only thing I havent moved to Abode is Phillips Hue, even though abode can control Hue without the Hue bridge I still prefer Hues interface. Schlage locks, GE switches, go control garage door, nest cameras and thermostats....all in one app.

Just got Abode and heard it had some IFTTT but didn’t realize it had lots of HA. Where did you look all this up? I guess I should check Abodes website

r/abode is a good place to start. Abode has a complete home automation hub onboard with Zigbee and Zwave support.

- use announce to broadcast it's dinner time to all kids
I have an echo dot in every bedroom, the kitchen, lounge, and living room of my house. Are you saying that I can tell Alexa (using the echo dot in the kitchen) to announce to all of the other dots simultaneously that dinner is ready? If so, how do I do that?

**ETA**

Nevermind, a simple Google search showed me how. I had no idea this feature was recently implemented. I do appreciate the fact that they constantly add new (and free) features to their echo line without requiring a hardware upgrade.
