Someone is emailing us slandering employees. Anyway to find out who it is? No response when we email back. Would love the info in order to consider legal remedies.

You might be able to get some info from the email provider by going the legal route. Or you might not.
One thing you can try is sending them an email with an embedded tracking pixel. There might be free services for this, I really don't know (now I know, PastePixel), but if not you will need someone with technical web hosting knowledge to serve the pixel and grab an ip address from the logs. All this is assuming the person even opens the email, and that their email host didn't cache the pixel before delivering it, and that their email app/site actually loads the pixel.
If that fails you can try tempting them to click a link and grab the ip that way.

Dis you look at the header of the email? Usually there will be an originating IP address.. which may or may not be accurate if sent through some web clients,TOR, or VPN client.
Take a look and see if you get lucky.

If he's not using cloud browser, proxy, TOR, or VPN....after you get the public IP from the email header....go search it on an IP lookup website. This should tell you who the internet service provider(ISP) is. After that go report the abuse to the ISP. Most have a hotline or form on their website to report internet abuse. If the IP's geographical location is the same as yours...you can also try contacting your local police. Theres a good chance they won't do shite about it but some will work with ISP to reveal identity and press charges against whoever is doing it.

quote:Yeah gmail and I believe outlook.com strip your IP address, and I'm sure many other web email services do as well.
