Friend has dish internet. the dish is set up about 20 feet from my deer camp. Can i hook up a splitter and run another cable to a router at my deer camp and the internet will work?

why not just ask him to bring a wireless router?

Yeah, or offer to buy one if he'll install it. Don't the modems for Satellite have to be specific to that? Or are they the same as Cable Modems?

its already installed. his signal not strong enough to reach my camp. since the dish is close to my camp was wondering if i just hook splitter from the dish and run cable to camp and buy router it would work?

from 20 feet away??
seriously you should probably just buy a $50 N-router and give it to your friend.
that splitter isnt going to work. he gets one IP address. if you wanted a wired connection, at a minimum you'd still need him to get a router with 4 ports and run a long ethernet cable.

dont give up. a decent N-router will give you about 150 feet in a single direction range.
the new Asus RT-AC66U 802.11 ac router has been rated well up to 300 feet.
you might consider dropping $150 or so on something like this for your neighbor if you really want internet.

Get an outdoor directional antenna and point it at your camp. If that doesn't work, hook up one directional antenna at his end, and then hook one up to a wireless AP at your camp, point it back at his, and set it to bridge or repeater mode.

APs are not wireless. Access points require a hardwired connection from the source network to the AP.
Bridge won't up the signal, but doesn't require a hardwire.
Repeater will up the signal at the cost of halving the bandwidth but also doesn't require a hardwire.
Most times you can get a router to act as an router, AP, bridge or extender, but knowing what each does is important IMO.
If it's satellite internet, it's probably very low throughput to begin with.
Just saying. No offense, thanks.

None taken. I wrote that on the toilet and didn't bother to go back and correct it
