Ummm...So I dont know how to use plex? that is news to me, considering I have been using it just fine.

Your shite in my thread has been nothing but hypocrisy yet again. But I guess I am just still jealous of your impressive plex share, so I am just so mad.

Now, you have someone off network running a 10mbps internet speed that is shotty, plex wont send the full content to that person because of the buffering. So it will transcode it to a lower quality by compressing that 1080p movie to 420i with AAC audio. This takes CPU power. My unit can transcode somewhere around 8+ concurrent streams. Thats the max i have seen running at once. These dual Xeon servers can do like 30. I CANNOT transcode 4k down to 1080p.

I imagine he has a docker or VM dedicated to hardware transcoding.

shite, you could take some of those useless mining cards you have and have the transcoding done on those

useless? they are keeping my house warm in this cold weather.

ETA: i have actually thought about that. I have a 1080ti mini that i could put in there and get back into gaming. but with a new kid time is valuable.

Trial worthy?

Additionally, although my video collection is subpar, my music collection is solid if that helps in a trade.

I was really curious a few days ago to see how cards are mining these days. A 1060 ($3/month) is now more profitable then a 1080ti ($1.5) bc of power draw

well i think it would have more to do with the type of files your media is. you want to be sure every client is set to the Max quality setting for the local network so it will direct play and wont require the pc to transcode.

also you didnt need the plex pass to set up a server. The pass just gives you added features, like Live TV and DVR when you add a OTA antenna and mobile viewing.
