CAD's kiss of death - Plexamp review (moving large music library off google)

So in the year 2020, I have come full circle back to full ownership of my music library. Google Music was a grand experiment but alas, YT music sucks so badly that even at my grandfathered $7.99/mo rate I'm ditching it. Simply put, there's little there for me and how I listen to music to make it worth paying for.
As such I'm migrating my 80,000+ track library back to Plex. Downloaded "plexamp" and have been very impressed so far. Streaming music in my vehicles using regular Plex in the past was a disaster; it would buffer and hang and in general trying to enjoy music through what is primarily a video-streaming app was problematic and clunky.
So in the 2-3 weeks I've been going through my library I find myself going back in time 10 years since the metadata I so carefully curated in Google Music all these years is gone. I am now back to my source material so this is a slow process.
The 'way too early' review here is that the app has done a great job playing and buffering the upcoming tracks; in fact its done a better job than Google Music.
The UX is customizable; tagging can be done with custom tags which provides way more functionality than Google. I can properly sort music by music label for instance or any other custom filters.
So everything is still a bit of a mess at the moment categorization-wise but hopefully cleaning everything up will embed the changes with the SOURCE FILES and not on google's cloud so I don't lose everything this time around.
Of course Sonos support is right there and the settings descriptions are funny
(see screenshot below) and while this may go away at some point, for me its really the only realistic alternative for large local music libraries.
Cons
- need plexpass membership
- need to have a decent server setup that stays on at your house 24/7

I'm sure you've made the right decision this time.

I'm rolling with Plexamp and Apple Music and am glad I have both. Since Laura I haven't been able to get my Plex server running remotely. Internet upload at my temporary apartment is a paltry 2 Mbps so I'm using Plex on the LAN only for now.

I might be saving you here but I've already imagined the fail thread you were gonna post in a few months when you found out it doesn't.
ETA: ...and it's glorious.

Plexamp is 100x better than the original plex app. I’ve been running it for awhile now. Have little difficulty with the 4.5 TB of music I can access.
Plexpass is a one time payment of $70 during the holidays.
If you have multiple people streaming Varys or plex dash work great to see what’s going on with your server/computer.

my whole plex setup is getting a major update over the holidays. hopefully i won't blow anything up during that process.
good to hear about your experience. 4.5TB worth of music is not a small number!!

Bump to show google doing shitty google things. This the the "plex" tab in Edge on my PC vs the "Youtube Music" tab in Edge for anyone who thinks this is an android app issue only.
Notice anything missing?? frick YOU GOOGLE.
not worth even the grandfathered rate i had for google music to be subjected to your whims of what devices are 'worthy' of casting thy music. frick OFF AND DIE

Keep this thread open if you have any questions.
I’ve got about 25 people streaming my music/movies(some4k)/live shows.
Clearly could always be better but I haven’t had much trouble.
I’ve heard Emby is also great and more open source.

Main issue with plex is they are always pushing other non personal steaming stuffing. Sometimes you will updated an app and there will be movies/tv shows on their server.
