What's the best midprice bluetooth receiver that I can use for a home stereo? I have an old stereo that I am gonna use w/ some outdoor speakers for backyard music. Wanna be able to play music from my phone and the adapters look like the best option.

Audioengine B1 looks like the best, but I don't wanna pay $189 to add bluetooth capability.

Something in the 20-60 range.

Best? Not sure it's the best but it works well in my home-built audio system. You can't beat the price, either.

It's digital. Much like HDMI It should work or not and there shouldn't be a sound quality difference.

You can do that and more with the $40 Echo Dot.

Can I control it with my phone or do I have to tell alexa everything?

ETA: Also, not sure my wifi will reach that far, which is why I was saying bluetooth.

Chromecast audio (I think) allows you to bluetooth and stream over wifi.

ETA: and you can control from your phone. Not alexa.

I think Chromecast Audio is only wifi, not bluetooth.

I was about to pull the trigger but wish it had optical input as opposed to RCA

You do need WiFi for the initial bluetooth pairing. Once the Dot is paired with your phone, it behaves like any other bluetooth receiver. Audio from your phone is redirected via bluetooth to the Dot. If the Dot is outside of WiFi range, you can't use it for anything other than a bluetooth receiver.
