Backup Camera for 2018 Jeep JK Unlimited

I bought a 2018 Jeep JKU in September. It has everything except a backup camera. The factory unit and install is over $1K and from what I understand it is a major PIA and expensive to get an aftermarket camera to show up on my factory radio screen. With that said, I am looking for an affordable solution that can include a wireless option with dedicated screen. I do not want the rear view mirror screen.
Any recs from the Tech Board?

I know backup cameras became mandatory in 2018. You must have just missed it.

The 2018 JL's do have backup cameras but for some reason the 2018 JK's do not.

You could try a cheap one and install it yourself
Wireless Backup Camera HD 1080P... LINK
We have this one on my dad’s work van. It works well even at night.
However, maybe you could find a better brand. I just don’t know how long it will last, but it does have a 2 year warranty and it is cheap enough to replace if needed.
This has been a game changer for my dad in his van.

Where are you located? I had one installed in a JK in Metairie for about $600

I doubt this is what you are looking for from a budget perspective, but you might consider saving up for something like this and knockout apple carplay/android auto integration at the same time.

That is nice but it has a premium system installed with all weather subwoofer in the back. The head unit has a screen and it has a navigation system. I am not really interested in swapping the radio out.

That is more like what I am looking for. Only thing is that I don't know hot to fool with hooking up the camera to a power source so I may go with something that can be charged via usb port and solar like below. This looks like the easiest set up.

That looks easy and nice.
Looks like you can check the coupon box to save an additional $50 too.

I just replaced the entire radio in my 2018 JK with a wireless car play system, added a camera and stepped into the current decade. Love the JK but the tech is dated in it.

I dont know what cheap means to you, but this solution is amazing.
I used it for several years in my 2014 Jeep JK.

You have to run the wires and install a camera on the spare tire mount but its worth the effort. It integrates perfectly into your OEM headunit. You do not need that wierd mounting bracket from the site.
I used small brackets from home depot that looked like this but was U shaped instead of L shaped. You screw the camera to the top of the bracket and then screw the bottom of the bracket directly to the spare tire mount.

$10 camera from amazon
$300 kit from Coastaletech
$10 wire and other minor supplies.
For me, that is a cheap wired solution with OEM Headunit.

Agreed. But I am nearly 50 years old and my head unit plays songs from my phone has it has the UConnect system which isn’t nearly as good as Apple Car Play but works for me.
This is the tech I had in my first car.

Do you have the Alpine head unit?
I installed this in my 2017 and it worked great
Amazon
Used this to get the head unit to recognize the camera. Pretty easy install for everything
